Copy and Paste

• "Copy this and paste this into your report." "Copy the image from this website."

• Are they talking about copying by hand?• No, there is no hand involved. It is simply a

few mouse & keyboard commands.

Educational Use

• You can copy just about anything from one document to another. • If you copy text or images for your

educational use, they need to be cited. • If the information is for publication, you

must have the author’s permission.

Where is the Clipboard?• After copying, the

information is sent into the Clipboard of the computer.

• It is not something you can see; it is just part of the memory of your computer.

#1 Method-- Copying with Keyboard

Hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and type C for (Copy)

at the same time.

Pasting Text• Now click your cursor in

your document where you want the text.

• Hold the Ctrl again and type V for paste at the

same time.

• The text should appear in the document.

Why V for Paste?• V was chosen for paste because it was

reminiscent of the proofreaders’ caret --- ^

• P was chosen for Print.

#2 Method—Right Click with Mouse

• Highlight text to copy.• Right click with your mouse. A command box will appear.

• Click Copy to copy the material.• Position the cursor on the new page where

you would like to place the copy of text.• Right click with your mouse button.

• A command box will appear.

• Click Paste.

#3 Method—Copying Using Menu Bar

• Highlight text you wish to copy.• Click on Edit on the Menu Bar• Choose Copy.• Move to your page where you would like the

new material and place the cursor in that area.

• Click Paste.

Copying a Picture • Select a picture to

be copied.

• Right click with your right mouse button on the image and select Copy or Save Picture As . . .

Copying a Picture

• Go to where you want the image and click Ctrl + V to paste it into your document.
