Hearing Aids
Hearing loss is a normal part of aging for most people. Even so, many of us become defensive and fall into a state
of denial when it happens to us. Have you noticed your parent or spouse asking you to repeat your part of the conversation multiple times? Does watching television with them cause
your head to vibrate? Maybe it’s time to investigate hearing specialists.
Hearing aid advice may be easier to take from someone who already uses hearing aids. Ask a friend, family member or neighbor to explain to your loved one how hearing devices have improved their quality of life. Find out the name of their hearing aid provider and offer to accompany your loved one on the appointment. Explain to them that you care about them and don’t want them to miss out on anything going on around them.
Explain to them the procedures the audiologist will use to perform the hearing test. Knowing what to expect often goes a long way in helping people feel at ease. Find resources and materials that offer hearing aid help and suggestions so you are aware of possible options before the appointment. Your loved one may falsely think that wearing hearing aids will
negatively impact their life when, in fact, the opposite is true. Getting treatment for hearing loss will improve their quality of

life. There are even hearing accessories on the market to make home life easier. Special telephones with amplified sound make phone communication less of a burden. Television headphones allow the wearer to control the volume without blasting out their
companions.
