How the Manawatu Gorge was formed

• A legend retold by Room 5 Woodville School

• A long time ago there was a totara tree Growing.

• The tree was a tall and strong tree. It was so strong that it could knock down a giant.

• There was a spirit.• It was moving a tree.• The magical spirit’s

name was Okatia.• You couldn’t see it• You could feel it.• It made a tree feel

wrestless.

THE spirit cast a spell on the tree it was moving widely. And itStarted walking away. The tree made a deep river bed. TheSpirit was invisible and the bright green tree was moving Wilder than a cheater.

• The tree started to move• It was wrestless and the tree

branches started to sway roots started to grow and grow

• And the branches started to sway and the roots started to grow.

• Turning and twisting the tree started to make his way through the rock and mountains.

• The tree moved wildly like thunder.

•A giant tree come to a stop. His way was blocked by the Tararua and the Ruahine Mountains.The rocks were very pointy and tough, so was the tree.

The tree busted its way through the rocks and it meandered through the

mountains untill it made its way through. THE ROCKS WERE HEAVY!

They may of fell on the tree, but it kept on going.

The rocks fell to the ground and the tree formed the Manawatu gorge

The rocks were heavy and the huge rocks smashed on the ground.

The Totara tree made its way tumbling to the giant sea and formed the old Manawatu river bed, the river had blue and green streaks that shone in the morning sun light.
