False ribs(5 on each side) are broken down into 2 catagories: just false and floating.
False ribs(3 on each side) are considered false because they are just connected to the costal cartilage not the sternum itself.
Floating ribs(2 on each side) are considered floating because they are not connected to the sternum in any way, they are only connected to the spinal column.
