My magazine follows the uses and gratification theory as in my magazine you should be able to get each of the 4 reasons that a person buys media.

Here are the four reasons:

-Knowledge-Person Identity-Entertainment-Feel part of the group

KnowledgeMy front cover, contents page and double page spread all include knowledge and information. A reader is likely to buy the magazine because they want to find out something knew, and get new knowledge from the magazines. I used articles and subheadings to show that my magazine will be rich in new information.

This is an example on my front cover. The use of the word ‘reveal’ suggests that this is new information. So by buying the magazine they will find out something other do not know- making them feel part of something.

Again, on my contents page I have used works like ‘tells us’ and ‘spills’ to attract the reader to the magazine to find out the new information

My double page spread also include new information which will provide the reader with information about the up and coming singer-Morgan Taylor. By writing ‘share all’ It connects with the reader and makes them feel like this is exclusive and new information just for them, so it attracts them.

Personal Identity

EntertainmentMy magazine provides entertainment. It is a magazine that focus’ on the music but also the artist behind the music. My magazine is informal and is light hearted, therefore it is entertaining to read.My double page spread is of a ‘share all’ interview with a new singer, which the reader will find interesting and fun to read. As it is like they are connecting with the signer, they get entertainment and enjoyment from the magazine. My colour scheme and images are fun as they are bright and unserious, providing entertainment. My subheadings and use of language are informal and don’t touch on serious topics, therefore people would choose to read the magazine for when they are looking for something entertaining to do.As my magazine is aimed at 17-25 year olds that like the chart genre music, they are going to get entertainment from the magazine, as it is full of information that is suitable and interesting for them.

To feel part of the group

Not many UK music magazines are chart magazines, but as mine is it is likely going to be popular because it is rare. This means that more people will buy it and be reading it. Those that haven’t bought it will then feel like they should buy it so they fit in to the current trend. I attracted the audience in to buying this magazine, by many different factors. The clothing the musician on the front cover wears, is more likely going to make young adults ( the target audience) want to buy the clothes so they fit in to the society.

I also attracted the audience buzz words, such as ‘inside’, ‘free’ and ‘brand new’. These words are likely to entice the reader in to buying the magazine as they want to see what is inside, what is free and what is brand new.

I have also done a tag line under my mast head saying ‘The only official chart magazine!’ This is going to attract the audience as they want to read the ‘only’ chart magazine that there is so that they say involved.

My front cover image is of a young female, this is likely to attract the young audience as the women who buy the magazine will buy it because they admire the singer and want to be and dress like her. The male audience will buy the magazine as they are attracted to her and want to find out more about her.

The audience of my magazine is people who like the genre of chart music. The cover lines of my magazine is likely to attract the audience, as it is talking about musicians that they will know because they are in the charts, and they will probably like them.
