13th October 2016 - Week 1
Term 4
Friday School Lunch Savoury Pinwheels $3 (vege option available)
Chocolate Brownie $2
Thanks to Janet and Katie for making lunch this week.
I’d like to thank Nick for the awesome job he did for filling in for me while I was away last term. It was a
pretty busy term for all involved in the school.
It is good to be back and it doesn’t take long to immerse yourself back into the job and you quickly
forget when the break was. I got a great welcome back from heaps of the kids, which is a reminder why
the job is so cool.
This term also has lots happening with our year 6’s starting their transition onto Golden Bay High School,
School Camps, Athletic Sports, Football Tournament and Triathlon. There is also the normal curriculum
work in class with reports coming out later in the term.
Have a great term everyone!

Phoebe Qualifies for National Chess Tournament This weekend Phoebe will take part in the NZ Champions National Chess Tournament to be held
at Newlands College in Wellington this weekend. Phoebe qualified for the tournament as a result
of winning the Nelson / Tasman regional final earlier in the year. It is a tough tournament as
Phoebe will be competing against intermediate and secondary students.
We wish Phoebe all the best.
I’m really nervous about the tournament. I’ve had a few games at school but mostly been playing against the computer. Phoebe
Housing for Tom? Our new teacher in Room 5 for
next year, Tom McArthur and his
family, are looking for a house to
rent preferably in the town area
from mid December.
If anyone hears of anything
please let us know.
Welcome
We welcome Rosy McRae
from Witherlea School in
Blenheim.
Rosy is in Room 4 and
enjoys roller blading and
she is excited to have
started to learn the
recorder.
Tennis Coaching The Nelson Bays Tennis Association coach Ashleigh Calder gave our children a tennis coaching
session today. It is great for the children but also good professional development for the staff.
I learnt how to hold the racquet properly and I had to put the ball on the racquet and walk around without it falling off. Ryder
I’m better at controlling the ball when I’m hitting it. I was with Lochie and we did well. Sawyer I learnt the trick where you throw the ball in the air and catch it on the racquet then flick it up and switch the racquet over and catch it again. Chloe H
I won Queen of the Court because I kept getting the ball in the court. I was excited because I thought I was bad at tennis. Isla
Cricket Registration There is a cricket registration/open day for all interested children and
parents on this SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 10AM, TAKAKA PRIMARY
FIELDS.
There will be some fun games and activities, giveaways and spot prizes.
There will be a registration table there for all children to enter the
programme.

Kids Summer Football We have been asked if we are interested in entering a team in a kids
summer football round robin for Yr 4-6 children.
It would take place fortnightly on Sundays at 5pm and run alongside
the adults social games. There will be a focus on developing game
skills and team cohesion.
If you are keen for your child to be involved please text Mark
on 027 525 8632 by tomorrow. We currently have interest from six so far.

SINGING LESSONS
Hera Livingston is offering Singing lessons at Motupipi. She currently teaches at
Golden Bay High, Central Takaka and Collingwood Area Schools. Hera says,
"I am passionate about singing and what it can bring to children e.g. confidence, self-awareness, communication skills, good posture & breathing. I teach kids age 7 and up, either individually or in pairs and also offer lessons to adults."
For more information, you can phone her on 525-8771.
School Music Judy Murray comes in every Wednesday morning to provide wind
instrument tuition.
We have kindly been loaned some instruments from the Takaka Brass Band.
Currently we have three learning the clarinet, three on the trumpet or
cornet, one on the flute and twelve learning the recorder.
I started with the recorder and then when Kahu got a different trumpet I got his old one. It is harder than the recorder but I’m going to give it a go. Riley W I’ve played the clarinet for a few years. I practice two or three times a week. It takes a bit of breath to do it right. Rhys
School Pathway
The new pathway that was put in over the holidays looks great and thanks go to a number of
people for volunteering time and equipment to enable us to get the job done.
Tristan Graham from TG Contracting for use of his digger. Skin Bruning for Fulton Hogan
truck and for delivering sandpit rocks and carting away the spoil. Luke Brown from ITM for
supplying boxing for concreting, Diggs Bruning for the digger work, Matt Bamford from PGG
Wrightsons for grass seed. Richard Green, Derek Wright, Brian Nesbit and Nathan Holland
Your help is much appreciated.
The pathway is pretty slick. I’m keen to ride down it. Charlie I think the new path makes the school look more welcoming. Yoshi It is great that you don’t have to walk along the decks as it got so muddy on the grass. It is a lot easier with the path. Riley O

Swimming Pool I plan to start cleaning out the pool on Monday and get it ready for the new season. It may be a good idea to throw some spare clothes in the kids bags as they watch what is going on and sometimes get in the way of the hose. It will take a couple of weeks to get the pool chemicals balanced and the temperature up a bit. Mark
