Les Catacombes is the entrance to the 3,000km (1,864-mile) catacombs network that runs under much of the city. With public burial pits overflowing in the era of the Revolutionary Terror, the bones of six million people were transferred here. A damp, cramped tunnel takes you through a series of galleries before you reach the ossuary, the entrance to which is announced by a sign engraved in the stone: 'Stop! This is the empire of death.'

EVENTS 29 JUN-21 JUL. TOUR DE FRANCE.

The Tour is the country's emblematic major summer sporting event, a

scenic race passing through the country's many tourist hotspots. After

almost a month of hard riding on the French roads, the traditional arrival

on the Champs-Elysées is the final flourish of the competition.

3 JUL-4 NOV. ROY LICHTENSTEIN, 'UNE RÉTROSPECTIVE'.

Lichtenstein’s paintings have long been recognizable and accessible

to museum audiences. Developed in the early ’60s, his signature style

elevated comic-book graphic techniques to high art. But the exhibition,

curated by James Rondeau at The Centre Pompidou, moves beyond

these familiar images to include the artist’s lesser-known 'brass-n-glass'

sculptures, riffs on art-history icons and landscapes in the Chinese style.

22 AUG. EMINEM.

It has been ten years since the Detroit rapper last set foot in France. Slim

Shady alias Eminem is back for a unique concert at the Stade de France

which promises to be one of the key dates of 2013. This exceptional event

in which some surprise guests could make an appearance looks set to be

an explosive show!

10-14 SEPT. MOZART: THE MAGICAL FLUTE.

This opera is performed outdoors in exceptional sites including the

courtyard of Les Invalides in Paris, the Château de Fontainebleau and the

Château de Vincennes.

14 SEPT. TECHNO PARADE.

The Techno Parade, organised by the Technopol association, is made up of

half a million dancing, fun-loving music fans - so whether you are a fan

of dance music or are just curious and feel like joining in the fun, you will

hear every imaginable style (trance, electro, hard-tek, house, and so on) to

suit everyone's tastes. Experience the techno vibe in the heart of Paris, a

mobile nightclub in the daytime, with some of the best DJs on the planet:

this is one of the best street parties in Europe.

AIRPORT INFOCHECK-IN. Opens 2 hours before departure & closes 45 mins before departure.

TAXIS. Airport ranks are situated at the exits near baggage reclaim points. A journey to the centre of Paris will cost about €50.
