was the start of a new adventure.
In this favourite port-of-call
for my great-uncle Alexander,
the warmth of antique furniture,
oriental carpets and plush arm-chairs
extended their invitation to sit back
and relax. At the heart of one
of northern Europe’s most fascinating
cities, the hotel’s timeless elegance
and gracious welcome already held
the promise of a memorable stay.
The perfect base for discovering
Tallinn’s historic atmosphere,
modern business center and
sightseeing attractions.

silverware, the crisp and impeccable
table linen in the hotel’s main
restaurant beckoned invitingly
from the lobby and bar.
Over imaginative and beautifully
presented meals, I could contemplate
the view of medieval buildings
while lingering over a selection
of fi ne wines and Champagne.
A mellow atmosphere, where
the patina of time cradles the modern
traveller, just like European aristocrats
before him, in a reverie
of sheer contentment.

of the St. Petersbourg Hotel
are welcome reminders of the
good things in life.
Epicurean offerings are paralleled
by attentive service, light snacks
and beverages from the bar,
a full valet service and 24-hour
reception. And after a perfect day
wandering through the town’s
cobbled streets and enchanting
parks, I was delighted to discover
a special treat: a traditional
Estonian restaurant. Pork knuckles
and cold Estonian beer was just
what I needed.

pleasure was to retire with
my travel journal to the glowing
serenity of my room.
Its simple elegance with
a hint of Art-Deco stylishness
was complemented by airiness,
high ceilings and tasteful,
sunny fabrics. The ideal place to
recall the day’s discoveries,
already imprinted in my mind,
like so many echoes
of childhood tales.

AT T H E C R O S S R O A D S of Baltic, German and
Russian infl uences, the old town of Tallinn is a rare blend of
northern European history, culture and architecture.
The large Town-hall Square and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
are sheltered by ancient towers and sturdy walls dating back
to the 14th century. And its most elegant hotel, the St.
Petersbourg, is warmly appreciated by discerning guests for
its traditional service and discreet sophistication.
