Amazing: How a Chinese Company builta 30-storey hotel from scratch in just 360Hours… and are set to build the World’sTallest building, SkyCity, in March 2013,in record 90 days

“Wonders”, they say “shall never end”

A Chinese construction company which specialises insustainable architecture completed the fastestbuilding on the planet after putting up a 30-storey183,000-square-foot hotel in just 15 days, or 360hours.The Hotel was built in the Hunan Province, by acompany called Broad Group. The hotel is so solid that it can resist a 9 magnitudeearthquake, as tested by the China Academy ofBuilding ResearchAll the materials were prefabricated and sections builtto specification off-site, so there was very littlewastage. The construction crew completed this remarkableachievement with no injuries to any workerThe Broad Group and its rapid building technologyfirst came to international attention when theyconstructed a pavilion for Shanghai's World Expo inone day, in 2010They also had a previous record of building a smaller15-story building constructed in just six days, withprefabricated construction modules and modernconstruction techniquesIn 2013, they are set to accomplish a moremagnificent architectural goal, which is Sky City.According to its engineers, the Company will build thetallest skyscraper in the world by the end of March of

2013. Its name is Sky City, a planned 220-storeyskyscraper that will reach a height of 2,749 feet (838meters) in just 90 days in Changsha city, by theXiangjiang River. The building is designed by engineers that worked onthe Burj Khalifa, the trick to Sky City achieving theambitious target is BSB’s 95%-prefabricated modulartechnology, which can facilitate an astonishingconstruction pace.

According to the construction company, theskyscraper will be built in just 90 days at theunbelievable rate of five floors per day.

Sky City will use an astonishing 220,000 tons of steel. The structure will be able to house 31,400 people ofboth "high and low income communities". Thecompany says that the residential area will use 83-percent of the building, while the rest will be offices, schools, hospitals, shops and restaurants. People willmove up and down using 104 high speed elevators.Perhaps the boldest claim is that the cost of theconstruction of Sky City will come at less than$1,500 per m2 – a tenth of the cost of the BurjKhalifa with its $15,000 per m2 price tag.One of the lessons from this development is toalways strive for innovations and beat your existingrecords.

Former United States President Bi l l Cl inton Thursdayjoined President Goodluck Jonathan and Lagos StateGovernor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), amongothers, to unvei l the Eko Atlantic City, about f ivemil l ion square metres of land reclaimed from theAtlantic Ocean.

The former US president said the city would attract people worldwidein the next f ive years and would improve the domest ic economy ofNiger ia and bring enormous opportunit ies to the world.

He commended the developer, South Energyx Niger ia Limited, forkeeping faith with the project, explaining, “It wi l l work to improvethe economy of Niger ia. Al l over the world, i t wi l l br ing enormousopportunit ies. I am convinced that within f ive years, people wi l l becoming from al l over the world to see this wal l .”

The new city of Eko Atlant ic Is proposed as the most impress ive urbandevelopment project in Niger ia. Bui l t to enhance the status of Lagosand create a new and stronger f inancial hub for the whole of WestAfr ica.

The Eko Atlantic city project started in 2003 when the Lagos State Government was insearch of a permanent solution to protect Bar Beach in Victoria Island from the effects ofsevere coastal erosion and to safeguard Victoria Island from the threat of flooding.Between 2003 and 2005 South Energyx Nigeria Limited, the developers and city plannersof Eko Atlantic engaged in a feasibility study with international experts to solve theproblem once and for all.

Their solution; a nine square kilometre development with waterfront areas, tree-linedstreets, efficient transport systems and mixed-use plots that combine residential areaswith leisure facilities, offices and shops, will be a new home to 250,000 people and theworkplace of another 150,000.

This will support a new urban development the size of the Manhattan district of New YorkCity. Eko Atlantic will change the face of Africa and will help Lagos State transform itselfinto mega city-status on the world map. This state will provide space for the 25 millionpeople expected to live and work in the region by the year 2015. Eko Atlantic is a creativeand ambitious development and is rapidly becoming a source of great national pride inNigeria.

Over three million square metres of land has already been recovered. At project’s end, EKOATLANTIC will have produced nine million square metres of land ripe for development:

equivalent in size to the skyscraper district of Manhattan inNew York City.To protect the newly reclaimed land from powerful oceanwaves, an immense 8km rock structure known as the Great Wallof Lagos is being built a mile and a half offshore. Tested by theworld-renowned Danish Hydraulic Research Centre the designproved that the wall can withstand the most severe tidal surgesforecast over centuries. Extensive public road transport facilitiesare further enhanced by an intra-island waterway that extendsfrom east to west, linking three marinas and all six districts ofEKO ATLANTIC.

The Eko Atlantic City is to generate over 150,000 jobs forLagosians when completed
