I hope each of your took the opportunity this past Memorial Day to spend time with friends and family and to honor the sacrifice of our Nation’s fallen service members. The USFK Memorial Day Ceremony on Knight Field and recently-concluded Pac-Wide Softball Tournament capture the patriotism, solidarity and spirit of our vibrant community.

Along with Memorial Day, the last weekend of May also marks the unofficial start of Summer. Kids are almost out of school, PCS season is in full swing and vacations are underway. The fun warmer weather brings a need for increased vigilance and safety. In particular, continue to avoid civil gatherings and remember not to engage in political conversations or respond to policy-related questions if asked by someone outside the gates (page 5).

It is also a good idea to make sure you check the State Department website at travel.state.gov for current travel advisories. One area of particular concern is the Philippines, please see pages 6-8 for more information.

Enclosed you’ll find the latest edition of the Garrison Enforcer highlighting some of the recent challenges we have encountered in our community (page 9). I ask each of you remain responsible for yourself and your family. Our reputation as Americans living as guests in Korea is contingent upon the behavior and respect we exhibit while on post and out in the local community. Be a courteous driver and remain mindful of pedestrians both on and off post. Take a look at the distracted driver information on page 10 - don’t let this be you.

The Area II community watch desk in Bldg. 4305 is closed as of June 1. Please ensure your unit is aware of this change and knows whom to contact for assistance (page 11).

Summer is traditionally a time for staffing shortages, with both PCS season and vacations as significant contributing factors, but this year the shortage is magnified by the unit moves to USAG Humphreys. Due to these circumstances the Child Development Center has had to reduce its hourly child care capacity (page 13). If you have children in our childcare facilities, please read the insert on militarychildcare.com (page 14), which goes into effect at Yongsan June 8.

Finally, pet owners take note of the Pet Expo taking place Saturday, June 3, (page 15). Our DFMWR has activities for every member of the family, so make sure to like and follow the USAG Yongsan Garrison and DFMWR Facebook pages for the latest information and community happenings. Keeping everyone in the community engaged and enthusiastic about being in Area II is one ways we stay Yongsan Ready! Yongsan Strong!

J. SCOTT PETERSON Colonel, Civil Affairs Garrison Commander

Eighth Army G2XCOUNTERINTELLIGENCE ADVISORY

as of 18 May 2017

Since January 2017, multiple reports have indicated U.S. Service Members, Civilians, and Family members have been questioned about the Terminal High Altitude Air Defense System (THAAD) and impending stand-up of the 524th MI Battalion. These attempts to gather information have occurred on and off U.S. installations, in bars, shopping venues, and transportation hubs. Some of these attempts have become aggressive and ended with the expression of anti-U.S./anti-Republic of Korea sentiment.

If you find yourself in a situation similar to those described above, remain calm and do not make any statements. Disengage from the situation and leave the area.

At this time there is no assessed threat to the 8A/USFK community, but it remains imperative that Service Members, Civilians, and Family members remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, including if they are made to feel uncomfortable by foreign parties or unusual circumstances.

Department of Defense Launches MilitaryChildCare.com at USAG Yongsan

Website Provides Families a Single Online Gateway to Military Child Care

Families at USAG Yongsan will have access to a new Department of Defense (DoD) website on 8 June 2017 designed to simplify and improve the child care request for care process. MilitaryChildCare.com (MCC) provides a single online gateway for families to access military-operated or military-subsidized child care options worldwide across all Services. The site enables families to create a household profile, conduct child care searches, submit requests for care, and manage their requests at any time and from any location. The new DoD site – which is being introduced worldwide in phases – offers a more streamlined approach to finding and requesting care, expedites placement through a standardized request process and waitlist management tools, and provides reports that help programs better plan for future placement needs. Through MilitaryChildCare.com, eligible families can search and request care for full day and part day options in facility-based and home-based programs for children from birth through age 12. Families may remain on a preferred program’s waitlist even after being offered care or enrolling in another program. Families at USAG Yongsan who are currently on waitlists will be automatically transitioned to the new web-based system. These families will retain the original date of their request(s) for care, and all program enrollment processes will remain the same. For additional information, go to MilitaryChildCare.com or contact the Help Desk by calling the toll free number, 855.696.2934 or emailing [email protected].
