SQL Server 2012 Available – 3 Reasons YouShould Be ExcitedSince Microsoft announced SQL Server 2012 in 2010, there’s been a great deal of buzz about the product’snew features, including significant improvements to availability, performance, and security features.
Now that this cloudready information platform is available to purchase, here are a few of the benefits thathave bloggers talking:
1 High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Required 9s and AlwaysOn
SQL 2012 provides Required 9s uptime (99.99999%), and also offers new advantages indata recovery. Previous editions required database administrators to use combinations ofclustering, log shipping, database mirroring, and replication to cover performance andavailability needs. A SQL 2012 feature called AlwaysOn replaces those tools by offering the
following benefits:
You get one primary server with up to four replicas. The replicas include multiple databases, not just one, and they can fail over togetherYou can have a combination of synchronous and asynchronous replicasYou can query the replicas, not just the primaryWhen you’re just reading (not writing), you can automatically connect to a replicainstead of the primary
2 Enhanced Speed: InMemory Column Store
Microsoft reports that execution of queries can be up to 100 times faster than in previousversions of SQL, thanks to features like the InMemory Column Store, which stores andcompresses data in columns rather than rows, leading to more compression (columns storemore similar information) and faster retrieval.
3 Enhanced Security: Improved Manageability
SQL 2008 R2 already included strong security features, so 2012’s enhancements primarilyfocus on improving user access while maintaining data protection and compliance.Improvements include:
Default schema for Windows groupsUserdefined roles at the server levelContained Database Authentication for portability of user databases among serversAudit now supported in all SQL SKUsCryptography changesTight integration with SharePoint and Active Directory
These enhancements will make Database Administrators happy, but SQL 2012 also includes a largenumber of enhancements to business intelligence capabilities. See a chart listing features for each SQL2012 edition
SQL 2012 is available with all Windows managed hosting plans and cloud servers through Hostway. Datais the backbone of your business – upgrade and start saving time today!

Beyond the Firewall: Download the Complete WebinarIn the last year and a half, the incidence of cyber theft has surpassed physical theft for the first time inhistory. This might seem surprising, given the push in recent years to educate consumers and businessesabout online safety. But sometimes a little education can be a dangerous thing, causing those who havetaken basic precautions, like setting up a firewall, to become lulled into a false sense of security. In reality, the security you set up beyond the firewall could mean the difference between a close call and adevastating data breach.
This free webinar download covers the information you need to keep your data safe.

At a large company, the constant employee turnover can make it difficult for HR teams to keep multipleemployee directories, databases, and user permissions up to date. This can not only affect the reliability ofuser information, but also result in security and compliance issues.
Exchange Active Directory Synchronization (AD Sync) performs a oneway synchronization of identity data(users, groups, and supporting data for roles) between an onpremise Active Directory Server andHostway's hosted Exchange AD. This provides your HR team with a single point to create, modify or deleteExchange mailboxes, SharePoint users and service users, reducing the potential for user error and makingthe process of onboarding and exiting employees quicker.
As a valued Hostway customer, you get AD Sync for free! Chat with a sales rep to sign up.
