NEOAA / AANEO
MARCH 21ST TO 23RD
A MESSAGE FROM OFSAA
A MESSAGE FROM THE CONVENOR
On behalf of the North Eastern Ontario Athletic Association and École secondaire catholique
Thériault, the organizing committee would like to send out a warm welcome to all the teams
participating in this year’s 2018 OFSAA A/AA Girls’ Hockey Championship.
This year, 16 teams have travelled to Timmins with one common goal in mind : to be crowned
OFSAA Champions. Although only one team will leave our City with that title, we hope that
every single one of you leave Northern Ontario with a lifetime of memories.
To our sponsors, we would like to sincerely thank you for helping make this wonderful event a
success. Without the contribution and support of the community, Championships like these are
not possible.
Finally, to our executive committee and volunteers, thank you for your time, your enthusiasm,
your energy and consistent effort which made this Championship as memorable and enjoyable
as possible for all participants
Good luck to all teams!
Bon succès à toutes les équipes !
Patrik Durepos

A MESSAGE FROM ÉCOLE SECONDAIRE CATHOLIQUE THÉRIAULT
Cordialement,
Yves Poitras Directeur On behalf of the staff and students of École secondaire catholique Thériault, I welcome you to Timmins and the 2018 OFSAA Girls' A/AA Hockey Championship. THE HISTORY OF OFSAA
In 1948 OFSAA was founded without any full-time staff or a permanent office. It officially became the governing body of high school sports in Ontario in 1952, and has grown significantly over the past seven decades. When OFSAA started in 1948 there were just six official provincial Championships for high school sports; track & field, cross country, hockey, football, basketball, and gymnastics. Currently there are 45 Championships and Festivals contested at the OFSAA level with sports including everything from rugby to snowboarding to golf. The growth of OFSAA over the years is also representative of the growth in population and schools in Ontario. OFSAA has expanded from seven to 18 associations, from 300 to over 850 schools, 5500 teacher-coaches to 18,000 teacher-coaches, and from 85,000 student-athletes to more than 280,000! In 2008 OFSAA unveiled a versatile new logo in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the organization. It was the first time the logo had been redesigned since 1948. It’s an ongoing history and one OFSAA is happy to share as we continue to provide education through school sport to generation after generation.
