Opening Prayer

Lord, we have come to this place from a world of demands and schedules. We have sought hope and peace and have found them here. Free us from the various stresses and strains of this time, and guide us into the wonder of Christmas as seen through sparkle in a child’s eye. For we ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

O’ Christmas Tree I’ll Be Home for Christmas

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, How lovely are your branches! O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, How lovely are your branches! Not only green in summer’s heat, But also winter’s snow and sleet. O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, How lovely are your branches!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely; O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely.

Each year you bring to us delight with brightly shining Christmas light! O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, we learn from all your beauty; O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, We learn from all your beauty. Your bright green leaves with festive cheer, Give hope and strength throughout the year. O

Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree, how lovely are your branches! (Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. ... It is a widely held belief that Martin Luther, the 16th-century

Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree.)

I'll be home for Christmas. You can plan on me. Please have snow and mistletoe and presents by the tree. Christmas eve will find you where the love light gleams. I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams.

I'll be home for Christmas you can plan on me. Please have some snow and mistletoe and presents by the tree. Christmas eve will find me where the love light gleams. I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams.

I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams. (The Story Behind the song: I'll Be Home For Christmas was originally recorded by Bing Crosby in 1943, and it quickly

became one of America's most popular holiday songs. The song is written from the perspective of a soldier serving overseas during World War 2.)

TO SPEAK AND TO LISTEN TO GOD

Call to Prayer (all sing together) and Pastoral Prayer

Lord, listen to your children praying, Lord, send your Spirit in this place; Lord, listen to your children praying, send us love, send us power, send us grace.

Chorus (all sing together) I cast all my cares upon You. I lay all of my burdens down at Your feet. And any time I don't

know what to do; I will cast all my cares upon You.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

TO OFFER OUR TITHES, OFFERINGS AND GIFTS TO GOD

We Worship God with His Tithes and Our Offerings

Offertory Here I am to Worship Chancel Choir

+Doxology (all sing together) Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below. Praise him above, ye heav'nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Offertory Prayer (in unison)

God of all good things: This morning, as we draw closer to the blessed birth, we remember Mary and how your blessings

come to the world in the most unexpected ways and often through the most unprepared people. Give us eyes this day to see

the wealth of ways you have blessed us and the opportunities you have placed before us. Use the gifts we bring to you this

morning to bless those who need the good news the most. We pray this in the name of Jesus, who gave in love all there was

to give for us. Amen.

Lighting of the Advent Candle Marty McCulloch and Mark Howle

Leader: Light and peace, in Jesus Christ our Lord Response: Thanks be to God

Leader: Today is the Third Sunday of Advent. Thus far we lit the First Candle in our Advent Wreath, and celebrated the purpose of John the Baptist. This First Candle reminded us of our hope in Christ. (Light the First Candle, the Candle of Hope) We lit the Second Candle of Advent, the Candle of Peace. We light the Candle of Peace to remind us that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and that through him peace is found. (Light Second Candle, the Candle of Peace) Today we light the Third Candle of Advent – the Candle of Love. We are reminded of the God’s love for our world that was in need of a Savior – Love Came Down at Christmas. (Light the Third Candle of Advent.)

Leader: Let us pray: All: Loving God, we thank you for your gift of love shown to us perfectly in Jesus Christ our Lord. Help us prepare our hearts to receive Him. Bless our worship. Help us to hear and do Your word. We ask it in the name of the one born in Bethlehem. Amen.

Response: Emmanuel, Emanuel (1st verse) No. 204

Prayer of Illumination (in unison)

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen

+Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-7 Pew Bible NT Page 832

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Leader: The Word of God for the people of God

Response: Thanks be to God
