Uninstalling Oracle 11g 11.2.0.1/11.2.0.2 – Server Level

Windows XP/Vista2003 Server/2008 Server

This section describes how to completely remove Oracle software and configuration filesrelated to the specified Oracle home OraDb11g_home1.

The deinstall tool removes standalone Oracle Database installations, OracleClusterware and Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) from yourserver, as well as Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) and Oracle Databaseclient installations.

Starting with Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2), Oracle recommends that you usethe deinstallation tool to remove the entire Oracle home associated with the OracleDatabase, Oracle Database client installation. Oracle does not support the removal ofindividual products or components.

About the Deinstallation Tool

The Deinstallation Tool (deinstall) is available in the installation media before installation,and is available in Oracle home directories after installation. It is located in\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\deinstall.

The deinstall command uses the information you provide and the information gatheredfrom the software home to create a parameter file. Alternatively, you can supply aparameter file generated previously by the deinstall command using the –checkonlyoption, or by editing the response file template.

Note:

When you run the deinstall command, if the central inventory contains no other registered homesbesides the home that you are deconfiguring and removing, then the Deinstallation tool removes thefollowing files and directory contents in the Oracle base directory of the Oracle Database installationowner:

admin cfgtoollogs checkpoints diag oradata flash_recovery_area

Dec, 2012 Computrition Software Systems 32

Running the deinstall command

From the Windows Desktop, Click Start.

From the “Search programs and files” string, type cmd – Press <ENTER>

From the command line window, Type

>cd [drive letter]\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\deinstall>deinstall

For Example:

>cd d:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\deinstall>deinstall

Provide information about your servers as prompted or accept the defaults.

Note: On Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7, if UserAccount Control is enabled, then you must create a desktop shortcut to a DOS command window.Open the command window through the Run as administrator, right-click context menu, and startthe deinstall tool.

The deinstall tool stops Oracle software, and removes Oracle software and configurationfiles on the operating system for a specific Oracle home.

Modifying the listener.ora File

Create a static entry for the SID to the SID_LIST in the listener.ora

You must have a static listener entry for the Oracle instance. This uses instanceautomatic registration. The instance registers with the listener when you mount andPMON is started. Prior to this change, there is nothing to register the database to thelistener so the instance is blocked.

Instructions:

From Windows Explorer navigate to

[drive]:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\network\admin

Open the listener.ora file using a text editor (notepad)

Add the following statement to the SID_LIST. (Modify the values to specify yourinstance)

SID_LIST_LISTENER =(SID_LIST =

(SID_DESC =(GLOBAL_DBNAME = HS)(SID_NAME = HS)

Sample Listener.ora:

LISTENER =(DESCRIPTION_LIST =

(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))

))

SID_LIST_LISTENER =(SID_LIST =

(SID_DESC =(GLOBAL_DBNAME = HS)(SID_NAME = HS)

))

ADR_BASE_LISTENER = D:\app\oracle

Save and Exit the file. Restart the Listener Service. Test connectivity to the database.
