Guide for Micro Speaker Units
Impedance
All speakers have acertain amount ofimpedance which is afrequency-dependentfunction. They havetypical impedancevalues in the range as
shown in Fig. 1.Nominal impedance is a speakers impedance at a particularfrequency, usually the lowest point above the lowest resonant fre-quency (F0) of the speaker, Hosiden will simply specify the nominalimpedance at 1 kHz if the speakers impedance curve is relativelyflat over an extended range above F0.

The input to a speaker is defined as follows;P : input power (W),Z : nominal impedance (),E : voltage across the voice coil (V)

Output Sound Pressure Level
Output sound pressure level is defined with an input of the ratedvoltage at 1 kHz applied to the speaker leminals.The output is defined as SPL which is dB relative to 210-5 Pa.At Hosiden, the sound pressure is measured at a distance 50 cmfrom the front of the speaker in a specially designed test chamberwhich well represents working environment. It is not simple to com-pare our speakers sound output level with those of speakers fromother makers which use different measurement configurations.
Frequency
An effective frequency range for a speaker is the frequency rangewithin which the speaker output will not drop by more than 10 dBfrom the rated output sound pressure level.Within the effective frequency range, in reality, the speaker mayprefer certain sound frequencies to others.
The frequency response of the micro speaker greatly depends onmaterial. Structure, design, etc., of the baffle and housing on whichit is mounted. You can identify the variations on frequency responsecurve diagrams of our catalogs and technical data sheets.
Lowest resonant frequency (F0)
The lowest resonant frequency is the lowest freqency which thespeaker is unable to convert an input voltage into the audible soundpressure level using an F0 meter.The value of F0 is indicative of the lower conversion bound for theproduct.
Maximum allowable input power
The maximum input (rms) power is specified by the effective in-put power when a simulated signal having a cycle with one-min-ute duration and two-minute interval is disassembled 10 timeswithout any distortion.
Handling and operating precautions
A micro speaker is an assembly of small precision componentswhich are not strong enough to resist against unusual shock andstress, e.g. a shock to which it is exposed when dropped on a solidfloor.As you know, a speaker which performs well under laboratoryexamination will not sound well in practical application. Your earsare test instruments when choosing size and materials for the baffleand enclosure.
Soldering
A voice coil is soldered to the printed circuit board with protectivebonding. In use, connection leads should be soldered to the speci-fied areas.
