Horror Still Image

This is my horror still image. I was in a pair and she posed in the image, whilst I took the photograph. We have tried to use conventions necessary to make it obvious what genre the image is associated with.

The person in the image is not giving direct mood of address, has their hood up and the back of their head facing the camera. This creates an enigma which is mysterious, making the audience question. Mystery is a convention, associated with horror.

For costume codes, we chose a black hoody. The hood is hiding the person’s face, which reveals an enigma, which fits in with horror genre. The colour of the hoody is black. Black represents death, darkness, secrets, melancholy and mystery, which are all conventions with the horror genre

Low key lighting gives a sense of tension and fear, which fits in with horror genre. However, high contrast lighting is used on the knife and this type of lighting makes things appear more dramatic

Weapons, such as knives, and blood are associated with the horror genre. The colour of blood represents danger and gore which are conventional in this genre
