This week’s Hornet Spotlight also features Pamela Halliday. Pamela shows
off some of her talent in running cross country with the Pelham Hornets
Cross Country team. She is a part of the Beta Club, 4-H Club, PBC-YAB and the Mitchell County 4-H
archery team. She loves to read, hang out with her friends, and listen to music during her spare time.
She says she will always be grateful to Mrs. Win-gate because she has inspired Pamela to do her best in everything that she does. After her final year
at PHS, Pamela plans to attend Georgia Southwest-ern College for two years; she then will transfer to UGA to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinari-
an. The Buzz wishes Pamela Halliday the very best!

This week’s Hornet Spotlight shines brightly on Lacey Brogren. Lacey is a part of the Pelham Hornets Lady
Softball Team. She dedicates her extracurricular time time while at PHS to FBLA, FFA and Band/ Drill Team. During her spare time, she likes to hang out
with her friends and help out with FFA livestock shows. She says Mrs. Whigham is the teacher who has been most influential because during her freshman year, as well as now, she has helped her to become a
better writer. After her final high school year ends, she plans to continue her education either at Thomas University or Southwest
Georgia Technical College. She is undecid-ed whether she wants
to major in education or nursing. Whatever she decides, The Buzz wish-
es Lacey Brogren the very best!

Do not forget FBLA dues are only $20! On October 10th the FBLA club will be traveling all the way to Perry, Georgia to
attend a membership rally. The fee to attend the Perry rally is $30. This small fee includes a rally t-shirt, admission to the Georgia National Fair, and a wristband which includes unlimited
rides all day.
The PHS Beta Club held a meeting last Friday in the media center. They talked about the upcoming event, which is the
Beta Club Induction ceremony. This is when the Beta Club officials induct the new members who have succeeded in making
the grades to be in Beta. The students signed a contract stat-ing that they are responsible for keeping an average of a 90 or
better. The students enjoyed the meeting and most definitely the refreshments provided by Beta sponsors, Ms. Wingate and Ms. Wilkins.
Mitchell County Youth Advisory Council or MCYAC is an organiza-
tion about teens coming together to improve all of the Mitchell County area. They have meetings on the first Thursday of every month to talk about ways to encourage our community to become
better. They come from every school in Mitchell County in the hope to improve the area and become future leaders. This group of young people help not only their community, but also their fellow peers. MCYAC is a good way to support Mitchell County through
young people. The PHS Seniors are selling raffle tickets for a $50 of gas and many more prizes. The tickets are
two dollars. See a senior or KeyOndra Robinson more information.
Mr. Hill’s first and third block classes have each been given an assignment that will help simulate
real life business situations. In both classes, everyone has squared off into groups or “businesses” to each de-
sign their own unique products. Eve-ryone in the group has a role. Some-one has to create a Facebook page, a Twitter page, an Instagram Page, and
a website. Sure, it sounds fun, but it is more complicated than it seems. Good luck to everyone that is participating in Mr. Hill’s engaging assignment!
When: Following the PHS Title 1 Annual Parent Meeting at 5 p.m.
Where: PHS Media Center
What: SAT/ACT information for your PHS student!
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Josi Lewis, PHS Counselor at 294-8623 or Mrs. Cindy
Smith, Title 1 Parent Coordinator at 294-8170 or 221-2336.
The Buzz features twins, Michael and Dillon McCook, this week. These two are very well known at school, and would rather be called Traye and Claye.
They are seniors at Pelham High, and are a big part of the Hornets’ Nest. Michael has played tennis throughout
his high school career, while on the
other hand, Dillon has played baseball his entire high school career and foot-
ball for only two years. While Traye is
still trying to decide on where he wants to go after high school, Claye
has decided to attend Valdosta State
and major in sports medicine. The twins like riding dirt roads together
and hanging out with their friends. They say they never get along and fuss on a daily basis. Claye says that they argue about senseless things, and he
wins all the fights between them. However, Traye thinks differently; he says that Claye starts, and he has to finish. The brothers have no special ability
that they can think of as twins. Claye and Traye are two great young men in
the PHS Hornet family.

Beta News
Wednesday, September 11, 2013, marked the 12th year anniversary of the tragedy that is known
today as 9/11. On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center in New York City was unex-pectedly attacked by terrorists who hijacked jets
and sent them into the Twin Towers and the Pen-tagon. A third aircraft was diverted by brave Americans and crashed in a field instead of the White House. On Wednesday, people across
America remembered the various lives that were taken without warning on that gloomy September day. Wednesday morning a ceremony was held on
the two year old Memorial Plaza where relatives recited the names of the nearly 3,000 unforgotten victims. “The terrorists chose this target hoping to
demoralize our country. They failed.” –George W. Bush

Interesting Fact of

Many people who read
the word yawn or
yawning begin to feel
the urge to yawn.
Quote of the Week
“You've gotta dance like there's
nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”

Face Life
The ink is red,
As is the blood you’ve shed.
You’ve somehow let the voices of others get into your head,
And you almost ended up dead.
The price you’d pay just to fit in.
You’d sell your soul or another gruesome sin.
The negativity that blocks your path,
You’ve felt so tortured,
never felt first, but instead last.
Listen to your heart,
hear and feel my voice.
I know you’re smart,
Your future is YOUR choice.
I’ve been where you are,
But I left that terrible place.
Now it’s you versus them,
Face to face.

The Girl in the Dark
She sits there and asks herself, “Is this me?”
What has she become?
What happened to who she used to be?
She used to hum.
All she ever does now is cry.
Thinking this is the only way.
She lets everything pass her by.
Telling herself to stay.
Screaming inside , does anyone understand.
Fake smiles cover her face.
Wishing she could take a stand.
Her sanity, she’s losing every trace.
She lays there crying in the dark.
One day she finally broke.
They all wondered what happened to that sweet little
heart.
Losing all hope.
She thought she would finally be free.
It just wasn’t that easy.
All she ever wanted was to be free from all of thee.

Neha Patel is the win-ner of last week’s
Football Contest. Be sure to check out to-day’s contest during your lunch period.
The Pelham Hornet Football team played the Mitchell County Eagles
last Saturday, September 7. The Hornets dominated with a tremen-dous score of 52-12. The Eagles were held under 75 rushing yards against PHS. It has been a long ten years since PHS has beaten
MCHS. PHS had over 300 rushing yards, 2 for 2 on passing for 20 yards and the most points ever scored on Mitchell by Pelham. Jim-my Fackler had a 94 yard interception return for a touchdown on the Eagles, and also scored the first touchdown. Desmond Parker,
Malik Jackson, Demonte Franklin, and Christian Drake also scored touchdowns to make this win possible. This win against the Eagles gave the boys the confidence to have a great season. The Hornet
football team will travel to Miller County today to play against the Miller County Pirates. GOOD LUCK HORNETS!
The PHS cross country team traveled to Greenwood Plantation in Thomasville to partic-
ipate in a meet hosted by Thomas County Cen-tral, Guthrie’s goal was 18:36, and he ran a 17:52 and placed 2nd. When they ran in teams,
the girls placed 3rd and the boys placed 4th. Congratulations to the PHS cross country team!
