3. Uniqueness & Comparative Advantage

• The Hormel Institute has focused research on the most deadly disease; cancer.

• The potential of Hormel Institute research is non-toxic, natural alternatives to chemotherapy and novel approaches to cancer prevention.

• Our published and widely known research on green tea and ginger are only two examples of many more compounds that will help people prevent and treat cancer without the toxicity of chemotherapy.

Matt Kramer, Commissioner of Department of Employment and Economic Development

“I was amazed when I went down there what a jewel that facility is,” he said, “All along, the state’s bioscience initiative has focused on promoting Minnesota’s strengths. One of our strongest industries has been food manufacturing. What the Hormel Institute can do is show through their research that food compounds can play a critical role in disease management.”

Gene Goddard, bioscience industry specialist with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development
