Overview of the HORIZON™ Banking System

Powering Commercial Banks HORIZON is a fully integrated suite of community banking solutions with high-end commercial banking and mortgage servicing capabilities. HORIZON sets itself apart from the competition with its ease of financial reporting, accuracy of transaction processing, and a deep understanding of your customers.

The HORIZON Advantage Your bank has financial reporting responsibilities to the SEC, the Federal Reserve, and your own board of directors. HORIZON’s sophisticated general ledger capabilities work seamlessly across all applications, allowing you to efficiently deliver information in a variety of formats without sacrificing accuracy.

HORIZON’s unique approach to transaction processing is based on the fundamental principle of offsetting credits and debits. As a result, all transactions are kept in balance regardless of which channel they are originated from and what application they are applied to.

HORIZON takes a comprehensive approach to relationship management through an integrated Customer Relationship (CRM) architecture that provides “once and done” data entry and sharing. Authorized employees can manage the customer’s complete portfolio and, with the aid of householding and business relationships, even see the customer’s extended sphere of influence.

Other Stand-out Qualities No guesswork versioning. HORIZON’s commitment to one version of the software ensures that all customers have the most up-to-date features with the option to migrate between any of the software delivery models as the bank’s circumstances and philosophy of service change. Options include in-house, service bureau, and facility and resource management.

Deep integration provides users access a broad array of functionality from a single sign-on. Screens share the same look and feel throughout, reducing learning time and boosting productivity.

Rapid product design with easy-to-use menus enables you to respond to market opportunities within days or even hours rather than waiting for a team of programmers to write custom code.

The IBM® System i™ platform with Open Architecture Standards provides best of class reliability, performance and standardization.

IT Framework

Network Environment For data communications, FIS recommends the use of LANs (Local Area Network) within branch offices organized into a bank-wide WAN (Wide Area Network) using switched networks and routers running the TCP/IP protocol.

For daily host (HORIZON) access, traffic will be routed from each branch’s LAN to the iSeries residing at the client’s Operations Center.

Example of Bank Network Environment

Virtual Desktop Support While most FIS applications may run in a virtual desktop environment such as Citrix or VMware, FIS recommends standard PC workstations running in a Served Windows Client (SWC) environment. For more information on virtualization support and configurations, please contact an FIS systems specialist.

Disaster Recovery FIS recommends using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for network recovery. In the event of a network outage, traffic from remote branches will be rerouted over the Internet to the Operations Center until service can be restored. If the outage is a major one, traffic can be rerouted to the FIS Disaster Recovery via a VPN.

Data Transfer Transfer of data to and from the HORIZON host is accomplished through IBM Client Access or other third-party software. If the host resides in an FIS facility, then all 3rd party data transfers must be encrypted using FIS approved

Page 11: HORIZON Banking System HORIZON Environments

FIS Community Core Solutions

HORIZON Environments 11

methods. Data transfer is typically configured at time of install by an implementation specialist. For in-house transmissions using 3rd party software, the bank will be solely responsible for setup and security unless otherwise specified.

Non-HORIZON Connectivity For the uploading of bulk files such as POD, in-clearings, and ACH, the bank should establish a standard method of receiving and transmitting.

Service Bureau Network Configuration

For those banks wanting to reduce or eliminate their IT overhead, FIS offers a comprehensive service bureau option.

Hosted Products The following HORIZON products are service bureau capable, eliminating the need for the bank to purchase and maintain their own equipment.

• HORIZON GUI

• HORIZON 360 BI

• Interactive Voice Response (IVR)

To find out whether an in-house or service bureau model is best for your bank, please consult an FIS Systems Specialist.

Branch Environment and Host Access For daily HORIZON host access, IP traffic will be routed from the LAN at each branch to the HORIZON Technology Center (HTC). If the bank maintains their own Wide Area Network (WAN), FIS requires ownership of the Cisco router and data line from the FIS Network to the bank’s main office. Ownership includes router configurations, administration, and ongoing support.

FIS will assign a range of private IP addresses that the client will deploy to all workstations requiring HORIZON access. Network address translation (NAT) is also supported. FIS maintains a private network exclusively for HORIZON and Item Processing and controls all access points. Internet and dial up access are not supported and client networks are segregated from each other. Router access, changes, and authority are tightly controlled and logged with access limited to network operations personnel and change authority to senior engineers.

Page 12: HORIZON Banking System HORIZON Environments

HORIZON Environments 12

Example Environment with FIS Technology Center

Bank Internet Access The IP addressing assigned to the client bank can be used for Internet access. In this configuration, FIS requires that the client have their Internet router configured with a default gateway to direct host data traffic. For additional protection, FIS recommends the installation of an Internet firewall.

Voice Response Unit (VRU) FIS HORIZON Technology Centers offer a voice response service (VRU) that allows the bank’s customers to access their account information 24/7 by telephone. Implementation of this service is accomplished through direct access to a HORIZON-owned 800 number. Associated costs for this service are:

• Number of VRU ports

• Number of Telco lines in the hunt group

• Toll charges associated with the use of an 800 number

Disaster Recovery FIS utilizes the existing switched network (Frame relay, MPLS, VPN) and/or ISDN (Integrated Digital Services Network) to restore connectivity in case of a network outage. In the event of an outage, host traffic from client sites will be rerouted across these networks to the HORIZON Technology Center’s (HTC) central router until primary communication is restored. If the HTC experiences a major outage, host traffic would be rerouted to the FIS Disaster Recovery Hot Site.

HORIZON Environments 15

Served Windows Client (SWC) Technical Details

SWC Overview LegaSuite Served Windows Client (SWC) uses a Rocket Software proprietary deployment method to manage the installation and updates of HORIZON GUI running on the workstations.

Some benefits of SWC (Served Windows Client) include:

• Direct PC-to-iSeries telnet connection

• Best possible screen performance

• Desktop application interfacing is built right in

• Ready to run on most workstations

• Consistent field behavior

• Quick, high resolution print screens

Some network topologies may require special consideration. For example, service bureaus will need to support clients over a Wide Area Network (WAN).

Although HORIZON GUI may be run in a virtual desktop environment such as Citrix or VMware, the recommended best practice is a Served Windows Client (SWC) environment.

SWC Package Files The package files for each workstation are managed on the SWC server. Updates and releases are manually copied from the HORIZON posting website and placed into the HORIZON environment folders on the LegaSuite SWC server. This triggers the download and extraction of the files to the workstations whenever a new connection is made.

The HORIZON LegaSuite Served Windows Client (SWC) server provides three folder environments for the following purposes:

• Production: provides the live runtime environment

• Test: used to test HORIZON releases before applying them to Production

• NextRelease: used to exercise a future HORIZON release

NOTE: For recovery purposes, it is recommended to back up folders prior to applying a release or update.

Workstation Updates To initiate the install of the LegaSuite Windows Client, the user will launch Internet Explorer and navigate to the address where the installation file resides. Once downloaded, the installer will run with minimal input from the user. Once launched, the SWC installer will perform the following:

• Check version and install/update the LegaSuite Windows Client software

• Check version and install/update the HORIZON SWC Package set

• Download the files from the iSeries host or the SWC Server

HORIZON application packages are automatically downloaded in compressed form and extracted on the end user PC. New HORIZON releases may be as large as 10 megabytes (MB) although typical updates are usually less than two megabytes.

Page 16: HORIZON Banking System HORIZON Environments

HORIZON Environments 16

SWC Distribution Models There are two distribution models for SWC files:

• SWC Local or SWC Sub-server: Workstations download files at the direction of the local server or master server.

• SWC Master server distribution: Sub-server download files from the master server by way of scheduled task or by manually connecting to the master server. The master server distribution is useful for data center and large banking institutions.

Package File Distribution The workstations check the SWC server environment and, when an update is needed, download the files from the local SWC server or SWC sub-server to the workstations.

After the workstations have checked the SWC server for any needed updates, they connect directly to the IBM iSeries host.

Page 17: HORIZON Banking System HORIZON Environments

FIS Community Core Solutions

HORIZON Environments 17

SWC Server Distribution Most network environments will use a centralized configuration where the LegaSuite Windows Client and HORIZON package files are distributed from one or more centrally located servers.

In some WAN environments it may not be possible to provide timely workstation updates from a single SWC server. In this case, a master server can supply updated files to subordinate SWC servers, which are in closer proximity to the workstations. This configuration provides the following advantages:

• The master server only needs to transfer files to the sub SWC servers, dramatically decreasing its load

• Individual workstations will receive better responsiveness from a local sub SWC server

• The master server can also be used as a test server

A scheduled job on the sub SWC server can routinely check for updates from the master server and automatically trigger a download.

HORIZON GUI Performance Considerations Workstation download times for the Served Windows Client (SWC) will vary greatly depending on bandwidth, network load, and the number of devices. These factors will need to be accounted for as you plan your rollout strategy.

The SWC environment generates network traffic volume under the following conditions:

• New workstation installs

• Yearly HORIZON Release

• HORIZON Interim Releases (IRBs)

Page 18: HORIZON Banking System HORIZON Environments

FIS Community Core Solutions

HORIZON Environments 18

The following guidelines will help ensure acceptable client download times when these regular events occur.

1. New workstation install. A new workstation install will automatically download the LegaSuite Client and the HORIZON package file set when the user initiates the first HORIZON session. To reduce download wait times during the initial install, it is recommended to stage a few users per location to the new URL address to evenly distribute the download stress.

2. Yearly HORIZON Release. Workstations will be automatically upgraded to the new HORIZON package file set when the user initiates a HORIZON session. Replacing the package set provides the user with the latest enhancements and functionality improvements for the HORIZON Graphical User Interface (GUI).

3. HORIZON Interim Releases (IRBs). Workstations will be automatically upgraded to the new HORIZON IRB when the user initiates a HORIZON session. These small updates distribute only the modified user interface panel files.

The following table provides general guidelines for banks running over a WAN (Wide Area Network):

Reports and Print

Report Viewing and Printing In a service bureau environment, all HORIZON reports will be archived on COLD+ with viewing capability. For printing of same day queries and reports, NSF/charge back notices, and statement requests, the HORIZON Technology Center (HTC) will work with the client to configure a printer at a predetermined location. The HTC does not offer rendering services.

Bundle Printing Time Deposit Interest and IRA Distribution Checks Checks will be to either the FIS Print location or to the bank via the PDF process. Printed checks will be delivered via FedEx on a day’s delay.

Statements There are several options for statement print. If an image interface is used, statement text files will be transmitted to the appropriate item processing center for printing and distribution. The FIS Print location can also print both image statements from ImageCentre, or non-image statements created by HORIZON.

Report Printing Report printing is available through COLD+. Intraday reports can also be printed using the HORIZON MyPrint or Remote Print functionality.

Forms and Notices Forms and Notices can be printed at the bank using the PDF process or at the FIS Print location, which will be delivered via FedEx and received on the following business day. Same day notices are available for print via the Remote Print functionality.

Tax Form Printing 1099/1098 tax forms are generated using the HORIZON tax application. Print files are transmitted to the Fidelity Output Solutions (FOS) group. Tax forms can be rendered and mailed directly to the bank’s client or they can be forwarded to the bank for rendering and mailing.

FIS Print Location For clients who print large volumes of customer documents, the FIS Print location offers a variety of support services in addition to laser print capabilities. A state of the art mail support center, with multi-equipment configurations, handles everything from folding, inserting and metering to pre-sorting and delivery to the Post Office. The FIS Print location provides the client with dependable, efficient mail service to expedite movement of documents to their customers with on-time delivery and maximum postage discounts.
