H60-Low Mountain Road

The Low Mountain Road, unimproved dirt road contains 13.5 miles lays on The Hopi Indian Reservation maintained by Hopi Agency connects to N65 Paved Surfaced

Road owned by Navajo Region maintained under Chinle Agency.

This road was once a high priority by both Hopi and Navajo Tribe back in the late 1960’s until the Hopi Tribe decided to construct Luepp Road instead. In the mid-70’s this piece of road was surveyed and designed and the Hopi Agency given notice to proceed with slope staking and was force to stop by the decision that was

made by The Hopi Tribe by Tribal Resolution through Phoenix and Navajo Area and change of Tribal priorities

From that time up until 2010 traffic had increased an average daily traffic (ADT) of 495 and Hopi Agency Roads Maintenance average approximately graded this dirt 18 times per year with an average of major road wash outs of every two years located at two mile and 6 mile markers north of 264. Problems begin this same year findings of roads inventory claimed by the Navajo Region caused this dirt road not to generate funds (neither Regions have Low Mountain Road on IRR System).

Applied for TIGER GRANT II Application twice and both times did not qualify for grant funds to construct the full low Mountain Road. The second time was
