Different types of family

• Nuclear family unit – made up a mother, father and child/ren

• Single parent family – one parent only with a child or children

• Same sex families – two women or men with a child or children

• Where there are two adults in a family to share the responsibilities, generally things are easier than if there is just one single parent.

• Can you say why?

Parents are not perfect!

• Although our parents love us and want the best for us, sometimes the ideas they have for us do not necessarily fit in with who we are.

• Why do you think this is?

Page 8: Honour thy mother and father

Some parents do not always know what is best for their children

• Some parents take no interest in their children

• Other parents expect the children to be the parents and they themselves are like children

• Yet other parents have extremely bad habits that are also damaging to the children

• And some parents are abusive mentally or physically with their children

• How would you feel if this were you?

The Book of Ruth

• You have heard and read the story of Ruth.• Ruth cared so deeply for her mother-in-law

that she was unable to let her go out into the world and fend for herself as an aging lady

• Thus she left her very own family to accompany her and care for her.

• This is selfless love or unconditional love.• Who do you love? Who shows you this kind or

some other kind of love in your life?
