ObjectiveStudents will be able to be able to identify,
sketch and label, midpoint, lines and angles. Students will take notes and work collaboratively.
Due TODAY- ART PROJECTPlace it on top of your group
folder.
Tutoring Monday 3 – 3:45Thursday 1:30 – 2:15
HOMEWORK DUE Friday:pg. 33 +: 18- 32 evens (use graph paper, use KWHCC– write basic info)pg. 37: 1 – 6 all
If you have 3rd edition- find assignment from online textbook. See me if you have questions.
HOMEWORK NORMSHomework is due at the beginning of class
LATE homework will be accepted for no more than 70% credit. You must come in during a scheduled tutoring session and explain the homework, within ONE WEEK of the original due date.
Homework will be graded based on completion. NORM-- write basic info/ show workIf you don’t know what to do, WRITE down the basic info and what you are trying to find WRITE what you tried to do to solve and WRITE a question about your “point of confusion”
If you follow these steps, showing me you made a good effort to complete your homework, you will get full points.
Use complete heading on ALL work submitted for this class. Work with an incomplete
heading will be considered LATE! (i.e. LATE POLICY will apply!)

what jobs require you to learn naming/ labeling?
Every main dish has a simple abbreviation memorized by all servers at a restaurant.
These include BLT for a bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich, CB for cheeseburger and
HB for hamburger. It is common to use the abbreviations CHX or CHK to replace the
word chicken. Steaks are abbreviated based on their name; a T-bone steak is simply
written as T-B, and an eight-ounce steak is denoted as 8OZ. If someone is ordering the
special, the waitress will often write a large S. Halibut becomes HAL, and sandwiches
are labeled SAND. Biscuits and gravy are often B&G.

Take notes……finding midpoint
Watch video:http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/linear-
equations-and-inequalitie/v/midpoint-formula
FORMULA for midpoint:
If the coordinates of A and B are ( x1, y1) and ( x2, y2)
respectively, then the midpoint, M, of AB is given by the following formula (Midpoint Formula).
practice1) Write the midpoint formula on top of your paper.2) Plot the points on graph paper. 3) Find the midpoint graphically and then algebraically, showing your set up for each.
(1) ( 1, 2) and (3, 6)(2) ( -2, -3) and (4, 5)(3) (-3, 2) and (3, -2)(4) ( -3, -5) and (0, 4)
Be ready to present your work to the class.
THINK--complete the section 1.2 anticipation guide
Pair: Chat with your group. Do you agree?
Now turn to pages 38 – 39 and see if you need to revise your answers.

Angle Vocabulary- summarize in your vocabulary section
• An angle consists of two different rays that have the same initial point. The rays are the sides of the angle. The initial point is the vertex of the angle.
• The angle that has sides AB and AC is denoted by BAC, CAB, A. Point A is the vertex of the angle.

Ex.1: Naming Angles
• Name the angles in the figure:
SOLUTION:There are three different
angles.• PQS or SQP• SQR or RQS• PQR or RQP
Q
P
S
R
You should not name any of these angles as Q because all three angles have Q as their vertex. The name Q would not distinguish one angle from the others.
Note:
• The measure of A is denoted by mA. The measure of an angle can be approximated using a protractor, using units called degrees(°). For instance, BAC has a measure of 50°, which can be written asmBAC = 50°. B
AC
more . . . Angles that have the same measure are called congruent angles. For instance, BAC and DEF each have a angle congruency mark, so they are congruent.see pg. 40.

Note – Geometry doesn’t use equal signs like Algebra
MEASURES ARE EQUAL

ANGLES ARE CONGRUENT
BAC DEF
“is equal to” “is congruent to”
Note that there is an m in front when you say equal to
“the measure of the angle…… equals…..”
The congruency symbol says “same shape (angle)” “same size”. “Angle BAC is congruent to…..”
practice– in your notes….
Name each angle in as many different ways as you can:

Work with your group to complete TWO handouts-1) Measuring Angles 2) Lesson 1.2 Poolroom Math
Be prepared to share your work with the class.Once your group is FINISHED, I will ask each group to prepare a POSTER showing the solution to one of the problems.
