The Gratitude Project Letter from the Founder & President Good evening,

Thank you for joining us to honor the Criminalistics Bureau at our fourth annual Hidden Heroes Black and White Gala.

The Gratitude Project was born from my experience of witnessing the heroism of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on 1 October. Their tireless efforts and sacrifice inspired me to express my deep appreciation for all those who protect and serve our community.

But not all heroes wear badges, and not all are on the front lines. The Hidden Heroes Gala was my initiative to acknowledge and thank those who are often unrecognized by the public, but their commitment in keeping our community safe is just as strong.

Since we started the Hidden Heroes Gala in 2018, we have had an opportunity to listen to the humbling stories and watch startling videos from The Redaction Unit, the Communications Bureau, and the K-9 Section. Each one of them serve a vital role at Metro, and I am honored to be able to highlight the incredible efforts of the Criminalistics Bureau this year.

The world changed since our last gala, so I am truly grateful that we can honor our Hidden Heroes this evening. None of it would be possible without our sponsors and supporters. Your unwavering and growing support has been outstanding. A special thank you to the LVMPD Foundation for embracing this initiative and making it an annual event to support the many units of the LVMPD. Together, we can continue our mission to thank and honor our heroes for keeping our city safe and Vegas Strong.

With gratitude,

Nami Oneda

LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Good evening,

On behalf of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation and our friends at The Gratitude Project, welcome to the Fourth Annual Hidden Heroes Black and White Gala.

We are delighted to pay tribute once again to people who not only go above and beyond the call of duty to protect us and preserve safety across Clark County but also whose work we never or rarely see.

It is an honor to recognize the LVMPD Criminalistics Bureau and more than one hundred professionals who perform scientific tests or techniques to detect and investigate crime. The Bureau includes Crime Scene Investigations, the Evidence Vault, and Forensic Laboratory.

Supporting events like Hidden Heroes funds essential officer training, the purchase of critical equipment and technology, and the implementation of hundreds of positive community-police engagement activities that help build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Some of our most important initiatives include:

• Fallen Officers Assistance for Families Fund

• Every 15 Minutes Program, which educates new teenage drivers to reduce traffic fatalities

• Shop with A Cop and other community programs to provide essential needs like food and school supplies to families in low-income neighborhoods

• Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo Memorial Scholarship Fund

• And a new state of the art Reality Based Training Center to provide lifesaving, tactical and deescalating training

For more than 20 years, the LVMPD Foundation has been dedicated to supporting Metro in its mission to protect and serve the residents and businesses of Southern Nevada and the tourists who visit us.

In addition to Hidden Heroes, the Foundation produces community events and programs throughout the year. These include K-9 Trials, Wonder Women of Metro Luncheon, Cops & Canvas, The Good Ticket, Lunch with A Sheriff, The Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala, Holiday Gift and Give, and the Go True Blue Golf Tournament.

We thank you for joining us this evening and supporting the LVMPD Foundation, and we salute those being honored tonight for your dedication to community safety. We thank Nami Oneda and The Gratitude Project for their vision in making tonight’s event a reality and their continued partnership with us.

The LVMPD Foundation has grown significantly from raising less than $200,000 just five years ago to millions each year because of supporters like you. Because of you, we impact more than the three million people in the community and more than 40 million visitors who regularly visit Las Vegas, and our efforts help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the people they serve.

Together, we make a difference.

2021 Hidden Heroes Criminalistics Bureau Even if they haven’t watched it, most people have heard of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The American crime drama has been running on TV since 2000 and named the most-watched show in the world a remarkable five times.

What makes this show so appealing? The basic premise is the same as found in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s real-life Criminalistics Bureau: to investigate and solve crimes by examining the physical evidence collected from the scene and preserving the integrity of evidence when the case goes to court.

The Criminalistics Bureau achieves this with trained professionals in the Crime Scene Investigations detail, the Forensic Laboratory and at the Evidence Vault who coordinate multiple crime scenes throughout 8,000 square miles within Clark County.

Far better than the show, the LVMPD Criminalistics Bureau has our trained professionals who work all hours of the day and night, scouring harrowing scenes, collecting evidence, and analyzing data in a bid to find the missing pieces that allow them to help solve the mystery and handle the logistics of preserving the evidence.

The science and use of sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment behind solving a crime is as fascinating as the hundreds of professionals who dedicated their lives to performing scientific tests or techniques to detect crime.

Our GRATITUDE goes to the LVMPD Criminalistics Bureau:

MAKING AN IMPACT

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization established more than 20 years ago to raise funds to support and supplement the police department.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and corporate sponsors, we fund area commands, special units, training and equipment, and hundreds of positive community-police activities to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

In 2020, when the need in our community was incredibly high due, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stepped up its community engagement activities.

The LVMPD Foundation worked with LVMPD area commands, the Office of Community Engagement, and Community Oriented Policing teams to provide essentials needs to more than 30,000 people. With your help, we funded these vital programs:

• Back to School Backpack & Supply Drive to 10,000 students.

• Turkey Drive, where ten area commands distributed 3,000 Thanksgiving dinners complete with food for a family of four people.

• Home Makeovers with furniture to fill apartments for vulnerable families identified by Metro officers.

• SWAT Bicycle Giveaway, where hundreds of bicycles were purchased and distributed to children in low-income families.

• Women of Metro’s Holiday at Child Haven, where female law enforcement creates a safe place and exciting shopping experience for lone children.

Connecting with the communities that our officers serve is a way for LVMPD to strengthen relationships and uplift people, especially during times of need. Positive community-police engagement helps build trust between the community and law enforcement and makes Southern Nevada a safer place for all.

By sponsoring and attending these LVMPD Foundation events, we can make an impact in the communities served by Metro:

• Go True Blue Golf Tournaments •Hidden Heroes Black & White Gala

•Cops & Canvas •Wonder Women of Metro Luncheon

•Lunch with the Sheriff •Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge

•Holiday Gift & Give

In part to your generosity, the Foundation funds hundreds of LVMPD events, projects, programs, initiatives, and units each year:

LVMPD Foundation Makes Progress On Reality Based Training CenterConstruction is well underway on the Reality Based Training Center, LVMPD’s most important capital priority. Since the project’s announcement in 2019 and its official press conference on Oct. 1, 2020, significant progress has been made on this project that, when complete, will be the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in the nation.

Important To Local Community, State, And The Nation

An important addition to Southern Nevada, the LVMPD Reality Based Training Center is a multi-jurisdictional training center that will ultimately be used by over 60 public and private entities state-wide.

The Reality Based Training Center will be a place where law enforcement agencies and other first responders receive specialized training that includes conditioning, decision-making skills, and stress inoculation to save lives during real-world scenarios. It is designed to accommodate situations law enforcement and first responders may be likely to encounter, from active shooter incidents with mass casualties, training for natural disasters, and the simulation of responses to crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.

OCT. 1, 2020 – OCT. 1, 2021 The first building is on track to be completed by the end of 2021 with a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 1, 2021 – exactly one year from its press conference - on a date intentionally chosen for its somber significance to Southern Nevada and local law enforcement. Ever mindful of the horrific tragedy that occurred on the Las Vegas Strip on Oct. 1, 2017, in the nation’s largest mass shooting, the LVMPD Foundation remains committed to providing funding for critical training to help law enforcement and first responders be best prepared for all incidents.

Generous Community Support Entirely financed by private donors, the Reality Based Training Center has received generous community support. The fundraising goal for Phase One is $25 million, with $18 million raised to date. The LVMPD Foundation is working hard to raise the remaining $7 million by the end of this year.

About The LVMPD Reality Based Training Center The first phase of the LVMPD Reality Based Training Center will include two buildings totaling more than 150,000 square feet. The first building will be approximately 50,000 square feet and have classrooms, simulators, mat rooms, and a secure garage. The second building is about 100,000 square feet and will include an indoor, climate-controlled tactical training village with simulated venues such as a gas station and convenience store, casino, bank, and school. The state-of-the-art facilities will allow law enforcement and first responders to practice together to develop comprehensive responses to real-life situations.

Project partners include design/build general contractor The Korte Company.
