Karen feared that her lung
disease meant she would never
dance again, but doctors at the
leading respiratory hospital in
the nation knew better. Since
1899, the innovative research
and approaches to care at
National Jewish Health in
Denver have helped Karen and
millions like her breathe easier.
We believe that people with
respiratory, heart and immune
diseases should never hear
“never” again.

Dear Friends,
Thank you for being a part of the AIR Society The Sky’s the
Limit Cocktail Benefi t 2015. We appreciate your support of
the institution.
For the talented physicians, researchers and staff at National
Jewish Health, the “We Never Say Never®” mindset is at
the core of what we do each and every day. Since 1899, we
have taken on the toughest medical conditions and most
challenging cases – fi nding answers that change our patients’
lives and making discoveries that advance care for people
across the globe.
Our donors have been with us every step of the way. Through
your attendance tonight, you accelerate the pace of discovery
by providing funding for innovative research and ensure
that we can care for all patients, regardless of their ability to
pay. You also help to educate and train the next generation
of leaders in medicine and science through contributions to
fellowships and endowments.
I hope you will have the opportunity to visit our campus,
where you can see in person what makes National Jewish
Health the leading respiratory hospital in the nation. Our
website (njhealth.org) is also a resource to learn about our
work and the conditions we treat.
Once again, we are grateful for your generosity. On behalf
of everyone at National Jewish Health, thank you for joining
us at the AIR Society The Sky’s the Limit Cocktail Benefi t.
Warm regards.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Salem, M.D.President and CEO

Th is common tie gave them the inspiration toassist National Jewish Health in its eff orts.
Th e New York AIR Society is composed of a diverse group of ambitious young professionals from a variety of industries in New York. BEHIND THE SCENES TOURat National Jewish Health
Brian O’Connor, PhD, left, assistant professor in the Center for Genes, Environment and Health, discusses with Michael Lehrman in one of the institution’s labs how National Jewish Health is seeking to understand how genes contribute to the development of disease.
Greg Cosgrove, MD, FCCP, right, assistant director of the Interstitial Lung Disease program at National Jewish Health, explains advances the institution is making in the treatment of this broad category of lung diseases, which are characterized by scarring and/or infl ammation of the lungs. Tens of thousands of people are diagnosed with ILD each year. National Jewish Health has one of the largest and longest-standing ILD programs in the nation.
