    HONOR POLICYfrom

    CUSD Middle SchoolStudent-Parent Handbook

Cheating is a real obstacle to learning and hinders the development of proper values regardinghonesty and personal integrity. It is important that students develop respect for learning andpride in their own efforts and achievements. Cheating is dishonestly obtaining information ormaterial for the purpose of claiming credit or earning a grade such as:

Receiving oral or written answers from other students around you, unless permitted by the teacher

Acquiring answers from other sources such as cheat sheets, yournotes, your books, notes on desk, etc., unless the teacher hasallowed you to do so

Filing in answers when the teacher is going over the answers withthe class unless the teacher has instructed you to do so

Soliciting test questions or answers from students who havealready taken the test Copying homework or receiving answers over the phone

Copying or handing in others' work as your own Claiming credit for something you have not read or done Plagiarizing from books, encyclopedias, Internet, news, media, etc.

Cheating is also giving information or material for the purpose of helping another person claimcredit or earn grades dishonestly. Examples of this type of cheating are:

Letting someone look at your answers during a test or by giving theanswers in some other way.

Filing in answers on a classmate's paper while you are correcting it Discussing/sharing test information with another student who has

    not yet taken the test

Allowing someone to copy your homework or by giving answers over thephone

Letting people copy your work or reports Helping someone claim credit for something that he or she has not

personally read or completed Forging notes, grade print outs, etc.

Help outside the classroom: Do not take advantage of parents, friends, or classmates by askingthem to help you obtain a grade dishonestly.

If in doubt about any of the above, check with your teacher. Cheating on an exam or quiz is azero on the test for the parties involved. Cheating on homework (including plagiarism, forging,

copying, etc.) will result in a zero on the assignment. Continued offenses will be brought to theattention of the parents and principal.

This policy will be enforced from the first day of school. There will be no grace period. It is ourhope that through strict enforcement of this policy students will develop the proper respect forlearning and develop pride in their own accomplishments.
