Honeywell has done a large number of Fieldbus

projects – from specs to commissioning

Broad range of sizes and applications

Two case studies – Wintershall and Gaz de France

• Off-shore gas platforms in North Sea

• Experiencing significant benefits

• Modest in fieldbus size and scope – range from 50 to

nearly 200 devices




Requirements

Improved asset management

Reduce offshore employees and use onshore

central control rooms

Remote analysis of instrumentation, remote

change of ranges, etc.

About 30% of signals intrinsically safe

Minimize wiring and space required on

platform

Only possible by using smart Fieldbus devices

Results - Lessons Learned

Skilled maintenance engineers are important

Exchanging a device required system experience, specifically with different revisions

Project emphasis shifted from FAT to yard commissioning

An FF FAT is different than with 4-20mA signals – you do not have all devices during the FAT

The first time all devices are connected is during the commissioning period in the yard
