HOMEGROUND! is an exhibition of photographic
posters installed on the fronts and interiors of
pubs along King Street in Newtown. The series is
a contemporary reworking of the classic Resch’s,
Toohey’s and KB advertisements which adorned
the walls of pubs from the 30’s to the 70’s in New
South Wales. Based on the original pub paintings
that idealised Australian sport and leisure, these new
images comment on their cultural stereotyping and
reflect the changes that have occurred in gender,
ethnicity, sexuality and lifestyle. The images explore
the diverse communities and their sub-cultures
that characterise the suburbs of inner Sydney.
