Te ocial registration statement and fnancial inormation o Homefelds may beobtained rom the Pennsylvania Department o State by calling toll ree, withinPennsylvania, 1 (800) 732-0999. Registration does not imply endorsement.

Presdents MesseCompleting my third year as President o the Homefelds Board o Directors, I lookback to accomplishments and to the utureor what is yet to come. In my frstmessage, as the frst non-ounder president o the all volunteer Board o Directors,I reviewed the state o Homefelds, past and present, and wrote about my motiva-

tions or being associated with Homefelds while appealing or new volunteers. The emphasis was on transition rom a grassroots organization relyingheavily on the original ounders, to one with procedures, policies and

strategic directions to provide the structure required to support Home-felds . . . into the uture.

I am happy to report that much o what I wrote about has beenand is being accomplished. As I complete my term as President, I pre-er to write about the uture, knowing that the Newsletter highlightsour accomplishments. I look to that uture with confdence.

First and oremost is my trust in a very strong Board o Directors, and in enthusiastic, capable committee volunteers. Secondly, we now

have operational structure and a plan or the uture. The Board has been, and will continue to be guided by six strategic directions developed with

the assistance o consultant, Kirby Martzell. Committee volunteers will beworking to pursue goals related to 1). Current Facilities and Operations, 2). Fund-ing and Financial Management, 3). Advocacy, 4). Marketing, 5). Expansion, and 6).Board Leadership.

Homefelds is moving through transition years, into a period o confdentleadership which strategically plans or its development. The uture, in the capablehands o our new board president, Jay Gro, has a promise o achievement. Thatsuccess will surely ocus upon our residents, those most deserving and our reasonor serving. I am so pleased to say that to serve as president or the past three yearshas been both a pleasure and a privilege.

The black catswere out in orce, and an owl hadtaken a daylightperch to hoot hisnegative greetings to allwho dared show on the #6 teebox. There was an eerie dampnessin the pre-dawn air whenthe energetic volunteersarrived to prepare or thespecial day.

The cats and owl stayedall day. The later morningand aternoon proved tooer a wonderul climateor the un atmosphere thatollowed.

September 25 broughtthe 13th Annual HomefeldsFall Classic Gol Tournamentin all o its mock supersti-tious glory. Who would haveexpected less? At the sametime, as the registrationbrochure proclaimed, we weresuperstitious but environmentallyconscious, o course. The overalltheme or #13, then, was 13 ANDGREEN. The 13 seemed obvious, but it wasnt much o a stretcheither to remember Homefelds

as the site o some wonderulearth-serving green thought-

ulness. Our hole-in-onecar, a Zap Xebra electric

sedan, reinorced theenvironmental theme. And, someone camewithin 1.5 inches odriving it home atthe end o the day.

    Almost eightygolers played in the

    7:30 morning round.Over 120 began play at

12:30 in the aternoon. Some setout with hope o winning prizes

to reward their golfng skill. Manykept their score on a secondscorecard honoring the number 13.This Triskaidekaphobia scorecardcelebrated phobias o many typesand tried to add elements o goodand bad luck to gol skill in thescoring. Those o all skill levelstook advantage o the day to havea great time while helping to earnmoney or Homefelds.

Get your calendar or next yearout, and mark Friday, September17 as the date o #14, again atCrossgates Gol Course in Millers-ville. #14 will be a thematic chal-lenge compared to #13, but we all

will promise to work hard to bringjoy and un to the mix on thatday. Please plan with your riendsto join us or good gol, plentiulood, and numerous, i not con-

stant, smiles and laughter.Elsewhere in this News-

letter, one may read thenames o the generous

sponsors and donors whomade this years outingsuch a signifcant successeven in a year when moneyis tight or all. The generos-ity o the golers who joinedus under their own sponsor-ship is equally impressive. Our riends seem to returnrom year to year, and eachyear others are added tothe total. All o us involvedon the Gol Committee and

the Homefelds Board o Direc-tors cannot tell you oten enoughhow grateul we are or this showo support or our eort, and orHomefelds as both concept andvery practical successul reality.
