The annual National See You At the Pole was held on September 24 at 7 a.m. in front of the high school. Students who partici-pated were treated to a donut and juice breakfast hosted by the FCA.

Clubs are a very important part of the high school experience. They are a great way to get involved in extracurricular activities and be more involved in school events. They are an essential part of the high school experience.

Here at Star City High School we offer a variety of clubs. They are Art Club, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, Library Club, Math Club, Spanish Club, Speech Club, First Priority, and Science Club.

So whether students enjoy drawing, leading, being a leader, raising animals, reading, calculating, talking, learning another language, being a Christian or experimenting, there are many choices to fulfi ll their his interest.

Golf athlete heads to State Competition

Dreyton McKinzie drives the ball to the state championship

The 2014 golf team is coached by Ms. Becky Brown. The members of the golf team are Nash Branson, Josh Dutton, Chance Levengood, Jacob Hunsaker, and Dreyton McK-inzie. They have played in 4 tour-naments since the school year has begun. In the tournament in Dewitt, Dreyton McKinzie came in 2nd. The district team played in Dewitt where they came in 4th in team but Dreyton McKinzie qualifi ed as an individual and is going to state. State will be held in Farmington AR.

Cane Creek was the site of the 4th annual Los Toritos Cross Country Invitational. On Saturday morn-ing, September 13, with 10 teams participating, the meet consisted of 2 Junior High and 2 Senior High races. Runners came from Camden Fairview, DeWitt, Drew Central, Hamburg, Hermitage, Monticello, Pulaski Academy, Sheridan, Star City and Woodlawn. For Star City, AJ Mirelles fi nished strong in 12th place missing a top ten medal by only two runners. Zavon Blackmon fi nished only 6 seconds behind AJ with a 13th place fi nished while Dalton Maxwell fi nished in 16th place. The Junior Boys’ team was round-ed out with Cole Tollison and Justin Rudder and fi nished with an overall 3rd place in the team competition. Star City’s top girls ran a good race with Caden Young earning a medal by fi nishing in 8th place. Kaylee Eifl ing was only 6 seconds behind Young but 3 places back, fi nishing 11th and missing a top ten medal by one. Taylar Harper also had a good race fi nishing in 17th place. Senior

boys 5k race was immediately after the junior girls. Star City again missed a top ten medal by one when Don Garrison came in 11th. The last race of the day was the senior girls. By: Jessica Allbright

Robert Berus, Gina Richard, and Brian York show they are good sports for a worthy cause. The Art Clubs Pie in the Face event net-ted about $88 to go to the fi ght against cancer.

These students received $100 for each area exam they scored a 3 or above in and can receive college credit in that subject area. They and their teachers were recognized at the AP Awards Ceremony Monday, September 29. Star City defeated Little Rock Mills 56-25 Sept. 19 for a non-conference win. Darien Chaney and DaJunn Harris both scored two touchdowns apiece for the Bulldogs. Eric Briggs made a terrifi c 95 yard kick return to make the score 14-13 in the fi rst quarter. Cory Hampton scored from the 6 yard line for a 35-10 lead. Blake Wynn scored also in the 2nd quarter. Coaches picks were Eric Brigg - Spe-cial Team; Anthony Camp- the Scout Team; Darien Chaney Player of theGame against Little Rock Mills. The Bulldogs defeated the Monticello Billies 48-23 Sept. 28. DaJunn Harris had a 70 yard sprint to the endzone, this being one of his four touchdowns. Darien Chaney ran the ball in from the 16 to make the score 20-0 Bulldogs. Tye Brown threw a 32 yard diamond to Austin Pow-ell for a TD. Coaches picks for the game were Player of the Game- DaJunn Harris; Offensive-Alan Mejia; Defensive-Cody Hampton; Special Teams-John O’Neill; and Scout Team-Trey Welch. Star City fell to the Warren Lumberjacks end-ing an undefeated season Oct. 3. Da Junn Harris put points on the board for the Bulldogs fi rst with a 65 yard run. Tye Brown connected with Blake Wynn on their next drive to tie the score 14-14. Warren put another TD on the boards, but Brown answered with a 5 yard run into the endzone. Warren scored 4 more times to make the fi nal score 46-21 Warren. The coaches selections were Player of the Game – Bo Mc-Broom, Offensive – Matt Long, Defensive – Cody Hampton, Special Teams – Hunter Logan, and Scout Team – Kyle Conner.
