Trinity’s Story

The earliest pages of Trinity’s story were written in the churches that dotted northwest NorthDakota during the late 19th Century. These church leaders long dreamed of a hospital to servethe needs of the Northwest Territory and beyond. During the early 1920s, a group of pastorssketched out plans for a hospital Consecrated To Christian Service in the “Name of The Father,Son, and Holy Ghost” hence the name “Trinity.” On April 25, 1922, representatives from churchesacross the territory gathered at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot to organize the Trinity HospitalAssociation. Within weeks, ground was broken and $60,000 was raised for the building of a 30-bed hospital unit, the lower west wing of Trinity’s present structure.

In 1971 the hospital merged with Lutheran Homes, providing patients a greater continuum ofcare. In 1993 Trinity Health became the first hospital in North Dakota to recruit and employ itsown physicians. Trinity Medical Group served as a new model for providing physician services inthe state and established Trinity Health as an integrated health system. That assimilation wasenhanced in 2001 with the purchase of UniMed Medical Center and associated facilities fromQuorum Health Group, thus achieving a longtime goal in the community to consolidate Minot’shealthcare facilities.

Trinity Heath has evolved into the region’s premier healthcare organization with facilities in several communities as well as partnerships and affiliations throughout the region. TrinityMedical Group is a comprehensive association of primary doctors, specialty physicians andhealth care professionals serving North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Trinity Health continues to lead the way in technology and procedural advancement with professional andsupport staff committed to the well being of each individual. Both Trinity Hospitals and TrinityMedical Group are accredited by The Joint Commission.

The variety and depth of Trinity’s services provides customers a smooth continuum of care froma hospital stay to outpatient services; home care to long-term care. Trinity is proud of itsachievements, but our pursuit of quality means we will never be satisfied. We will always besearching for a better quality of life for the communities we serve.

Student nurses will workunder a preceptor and are able to perform any duties that have beencovered in school (e.g., passing meds, etc.). We try to place students inareas of interest to them. MARRIED PRECEPTORSHIPDuring the 6-week orientation of new graduate nurses, the first phase starts with a Married Preceptorship program where the preceptee andpreceptor are inseparable. An individualized orientation plan is developed according to the preceptee’s pace of learning. The preceptoris encouraged to constantly speak/think “out loud”, explaining rationalefor his/her actions. The program allows the preceptee to watch andbecome directly involved with the delivery of care to the patient payingattention to the critical thinking, critical reasoning, and judgment shownby the preceptor. Additionally, it helps new nurses with organizing, prioritizing, adjusting to frequent interruptions, and meeting the needs ofthe entire patient load.
