MC-12 Digital Controller

The MC-12 Digital Controller is a reference-quality,12-channel digital control center with built-in digital audioprocessing, 12 configurable inputs, and 3 zones. It isavailable in balanced and unbalanced versions and anoptional rack mount kit is available.

Powerful

Equipped with five digital signal processing (DSP) engines, the MC-12 has enormous processing power. IncomingDolby Digital and dts signals are decoded by a CirrusLogic® DSP, then sent to four Analog Devices SHARC® 32-bit floating-point DSPs. These extremely powerfulprocessors perform custom Lexicon processing includingLOGIC 7, bass enhancement, dialog enhancement, autoazimuth, 5-speaker enhancement, bass management, listening modes, crossovers, and tone controls. Thesefeatures are all processed in 32-bit floating-point format, atup to 96kHz, retaining top performance from any inputsource. Although the MC-12 includes tremendousprocessing capabilities, three internal expansion slots makeit possible to more than quadruple its processing power.

Precise

The MC-12 is the most accurate audio and video controlcenter available. Analog audio inputs are converted todigital audio signals using high-precision 24-bit/96kHzanalog-to-digital converters, then processed internally at96kHz. This allows analog audio inputs to access thebenefits of digital signal processing without sacrificingsound quality. Alternatively, analog audio inputs can bypassanalog-to-digital conversion and internal processing toremain in the analog domain all the way to the outputs.Digital audio inputs use a two-stage phase lock loop forextremely low intrinsic jitter with high rejection, and areprocessed at their native sampling rate to eliminate theperformance trade-off of sample rate conversion. Lexicon’sproprietary auto-azimuth technology corrects timing andlevel imbalances at the input, allowing for extremelyaccurate playback of surround-encoded sources. TheMC-12 includes exceptionally precise crossovers and tonecontrols, which operate in the digital domain to reducesonic degradations. Analog crossovers and tone controlsoften introduce noise and other distortions thatcompromise the integrity of the signal passing throughthem. Analog components also change as they ageintroducing further inaccuracies not present when theproduct was new. Digital processing minimizes theseanomalies and maintains performance over time. As a

The MC-12 is also capable ofaccepting 5.1-channel and stereo analog inputs. The5.1-channel analog input is ideal for connecting the RT-10disc player. In addition, the balanced version includes XLRconnectors for all main and second zone audio outputs. These are useful for applications requiring longer cableruns and for installations susceptible to noise. To ensurecomplete integration, the remote control provides severalbanks of IR commands for teaching other systemcontrollers. The rear panel includes an IR input that allowsthe MC-12 to receive commands without an IR repeater

floating-point implementation. LOGIC 7 creates a 7.1-channel output from any 2, 5.1, or 6.1-channel input source.Unlike other decoders, it requires no special encoding forplayback. For music recordings, LOGIC 7 increases thesense of spaciousness in the listening room withoutaltering the front soundstage, providing a more realisticrecreation of the original musical event. When LOGIC 7 isapplied, two-channel film soundtracks are expanded to 7.1-channels, resulting in a performance that rivals discretemulti-channel sources. When applied to 5.1-channelsoundtracks, two additional channels are derived, deliveringa more enveloping listening experience. Because theimprovement LOGIC 7 provides is clearly audible whencompared to other decoders, it is widely recognized as thefinest surround decoder available.

attached to the front panel, as well as an RS-232 port forbi-directional communication with compatible controllers.Three DC trigger outputs are also available for control ofexternal devices.

The MC-12 can adapt to any listening environment, and canbe configured for any type of application. Each of the threezones can use a different input source simultaneously. Forinstance, watch a DVD in the theater, while playing a CD inthe kitchen, and recording a favorite television show fromsatellite to the VCR.The record zone can also be used tocontrol audio and video in a third zone if recording is notnecessary. Extensive input and speaker configurationoptions introduce a wide range of possibilities. Any digitalaudio, analog audio, and video input connector can beassigned to any input. Analog audio inputs can also beconverted to digital audio signals, providing access todigital crossovers, bass management, and tone controls.Independent digital crossovers are available in 10Hzincrements from 30Hz to 120Hz, making it easy to choose

the appropriate crossover setting for all speakers in thesystem. Three independent subwoofer outputs andsophisticated routing provide multiple subwoofer setupoptions and comprehensive bass management. For thepurist, an analog bypass option allows analog audio signalsto bypass analog-to-digital conversion and internalprocessing altogether.

An intuitive user-interface with an on-screen displayprovides quick access to the mode adjust, audio controls, and setup menus. The mode adjust and audio controlsmenus allow listening modes and tone controls to becustomized to suit individual preferences. The setup menuallows the unit to be configured for optimal performancein any system.
