Our children have also been heavily involved in the Banjo Paerson Poetry Fesval over the last two weeks with a large number of our students presenng their poems at the Regional Gallery during the Poetry on the Pavers. Dear Parents

OPS, Yes, Yes, Yes! If you were anywhere near the Orange Aquatic Centre yesterday you

would have heard the echoing chant of our school as our swimmers were cheered on by

their classmates and friends during the Orange District Swimming Carnival. It was a great

day of swimming, our students shone with outstanding results across all age groups and

strokes. Emily Clunas was awarded the Senior Champion Girl whilst Kingston Johnston

smashed records throughout the day in becoming the 11 years Boys Champion. Numerous

others gained overall placing’s on the day with the relay teams also shining with nearly all

winning or making the top three. Congratulations to the entire team and the teachers who

helped coordinate the day. A huge thank you to the parents who assisted throughout the

day as without their help and support the carnival would be very difficult to run. Our top

swimmers will now move forward to compete at the Western Region Carnival to be held

on the 14th of March in Dubbo.

Our children have also been heavily involved in the Banjo Patterson Poetry Festival over

the last two weeks with a large number of our students presenting their poems at the

Regional Gallery during the Poetry on the Pavers. Mrs Smith was delighted with the

enormous interest this year that surpassed our 2018 entries. Many students then went on

to perform their Poetry during the weekend with outstanding results again.

Congratulations to all children and parents involved.

This week our annual school photos are taking place with the family packages being on

Tuesday and Wednesday morning followed by the Infants school today, with Primary

having their photos tomorrow. I would like to commend the families of OPS for the

outstanding presentation of their children for the photos, as they look exceptional.

This week we are excited to begin our transition program for year 6 towards high school.

A program that will run for 5 weeks will see our students travelling to Orange High School

to be involved in a technology initiative. This activity will assess students ability with

technology then develop skills in readiness for high school technology operations. This

program is being accessed by all year 6 students not only students proceeding to OHS in

2020.

Our school has now completed the carpeting upgrade in the primary and we are delighted

to see the end result with 10 classrooms, three offices, the foyer and the staffroom all

seeing new carpet for the first time in over 15 years. The school has also seen the

completion of the new roof on the Sale Street building which has made a huge difference

with the look and the heat transferred into the rooms.

Next week the Orange Public School P&C will be holding their AGM. The AGM will start at the beginning of the

scheduled monthly meeting, starting at 7pm at the Primary site in the staffroom. We always welcome new members

to the P&C and last meeting saw a huge number of parents who are interested in being involved with the school.

The P&C is a great group of parents who really want the best for every child and we see this organisation as a vital

link in decision making within the school because the children we work with and for are your children. We want

suggestions, questions and thoughts and everyone is welcome.

Next week the Department of Education will be using our school to run training for Principals and Administration

staff in systems awareness and the school will see approximately 100 visitors during the week. Our school is often

called upon to host training or to be involved in hosting student workshops.

Mrs Cope will be coordinating the Western Region Debating workshop on Tuesday 12th March . Our students really

look forward to this event with our school having a strong tradition of quality debaters.

Finally I would like to remind parents to keep an eye out for the Sporting and Creative Art vouchers available to

families to assist involving your child in sport or an arts activity. It is so important for student well-being that they

are active and the provision of funds to reduce costs should not be missed. Enjoy the last few days of Summer.

Enjoy the week.

On Friday, 1st March Orange Public School will be playing their part in Clean Up

Australia Day, which is vital toward protecting different environments all across

Australia. All students who partake will be cleaning either the Infants or Primary

playgrounds, as well as Moulder Park (some classes). Clean Up Australia Day is a great

way to teach kids about caring for our environment and how they can make a

difference. They will also learn valuable skills such as team building and will be

empowered to take pride in their school and environment. Please send students to

school with gloves on the day, so they can do their bit to ensure that we have a

greener, cleaner future.
