This term holds many opportunies for us to come together as a school community. We will have opportunies to celebrate our school throughout Educaon Week in week 3. Our students will entertain us at our performing arts spectacular in week 5 known as CHAFFS, we will welcome next years kindergarten families in that week also. Our P & C will call on all members of our school community to support the Spring Fair on Sunday 15th September in a variety of ways. Our students will have opportunies to parcipate and shine in district sporng events, debang compeons and musical camps. A term planner is included with this newsleer, so you can see whats coming up this term. I will be taking some leave starng next Monday for four weeks. Ms Nicole Menzies will be relieving principal and Mrs Lyndal Bruggemann with be relieving assistant principal, during my absence. Dear Parents, carers and community members,

Welcome to a very busy Term 3. This term holds many opportunities for us to come together as a school community. We have child protection as our school welfare focus for Term 3. Students will work in grade groupings on material suitable for their level of understanding. The material has been developed by the Department of Education and focuses on the idea that all children have a right to be safe. It is compulsory that child protection be taught in schools. The three themes covered in the lessons are -

Recognising Abuse Power in Relationships Protective Strategies

Children are taught that if they feel unsafe or threatened they should follow the plan of ‘NO, GO TELL’. Parents who would like more information about the program or an opportunity to view the material being used are invited to speak to Mrs Menzies or class teachers.

Fresh Fruit & Vegie Campaign

The Fruit & Vegie Campaign commences at the canteen on Monday 5th August until Friday 20th September.

During this time students will receive a token sticker per one piece of fruit or vegetable purchased and once two stickers have been collected the student will receive a prize. The canteen will provide lots of different fruit & vegie items during this four week period. Students will receive a sticker if they purchase items such as salad sandwich, chicken, lettuce and mayo burgers, salad tubs or fruit salad. At the end of the promotion the canteen will send in all completed sticker cards to Sydney Markets for the major prize draw. The major prize this year is a $1000 voucher for Booktopia.

All families are invited to attend our Education Week Open Day on Friday, 9th August. The Department of Education theme for Education Week this year is “ Every Student. Every Voice”.

Will operate at the following times: 8.30 – 10.00 am 11.00 – 11.30 am 1.00 – 3.00 pm

Families have an opportunity to purchase quality reading material for students and to donate books to the Library. If parent/carers are unable to attend, students may still purchase books. Place money in an envelope marked with child’s name and class and they will be able to purchase books during the day.

CONCERT

10.00 – 11.00 am

Performances from various school performing arts groups including the band and choir.

MORNING TEA

11.00 – 11.30 am

Families may enjoy morning tea with their child. The canteen will have a variety of savoury treats, as well as tea, coffee, fruit juice and water to purchase. Also, a selection of cakes and slices will be available to purchase from the cake stall.

FAMILY GROUP ACTIVITIES (Rotations)

11.40 – 1.00 pm

We will have some fantastic activities for everyone to sample! Students will be placed in K-6 groups and you are encouraged to join in with your child/ren.

LUNCH

1.00 – 2.00 pm

Families are invited to have lunch with their child. Families can order lunch from the canteen by placing an order in their child’s class lunch basket in the morning or purchase a tasty sausage sandwich from the BBQ on the day. You are welcome to visit your child’s classroom during lunchtime.

Primary Athletics Carnival

Last term’s annual athletics carnival was the culmination of the primary’s term 2 sporting program, focusing on athletics skills. Students were taught the basic skills and safety aspects of long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and sprinting, rotating through these skills on a weekly basis. The participation level at the carnival was fantastic! It was great to see students getting involved and earning points for their house and themselves. Congratulations to the winning house—MELALEUCA Some of the highlights from the carnival were: Marlie Bell breaking the Junior Girls high jump

record Adam Drewitt equalling Ryan Moloney’s Senior Boys

shot put record of 10.22m 8 year old Hannah Summer’s dominant win in the

Junior Girls (8 yrs - 10yrs) 800m Zak Houston’s blistering speed to go so close to

breaking the 12 yr boys 100m & 200m events The competitive and close finishes of many of the

races and field events The enjoyment of the students involved in the

novelty events organised by Mrs Egan & Mrs Ryles Our individual champions were: JUNIOR GIRL Marlie Bell Banksia JUNIOR BOY Angus Bowen Melaleuca 11 YEAR BOY Isaac Luke Melaleuca 11 YEAR GIRL Sophie Hill Eucalypt SENIOR GIRL Kiara Newman Acacia SENIOR BOY Zak Houston Eucalypt 45 athletes will now represent North Haven Public School at the PSSA district carnival to be held at Blackbutt Oval, Wauchope on Monday, 5th August. A big thank you to all of our wonderful spectators who encouraged our students throughout the day. Thank you to our canteen staff for providing us with such wonderful tucker!

K-2 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Wednesday, 7th August

All students are expected to come to school on the day of the carnival. THIS IS A NORMAL SCHOOL DAY.

K-2 Carnival will be held on the school oval

Events will commence at approximately 9.20 am

Students may wear a T-Shirt or clothing in their house colour (a note indicating your child’s house colour will

be sent home prior to the carnival). Remember to be sun safe!

Families are welcome to attend—bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on.
