Year 12 Half Yearly Exams in the Hall Year 10 Work Experience Last day of Term 1
ANDY GRIFFITHS PRODUCTION Last week was an amazing week of learning and extra-curricular opportunities at Molong Central School. It started with a fabulous excursion to Orange Civic Theatre to watch a performance of Andy Griffiths’ 52 Storey Tree House. It was a great opportunity to see a story come to life on the stage and for many students this was their first live production. I was fortunate to join Mrs Collins and Mrs Betts in the supervision of the students and must thank Mrs Brown for her organisation. The opportunity to watch the students faces as the story unfolded was priceless. HIGHER SCHOOL CERTIFICATE PREPARATION The following day I was invited to the Viva Voce for Alexandria Trudgett. The function of the Viva is to respond to questions about her major work for Extension 2 English. This was an opportunity to see firsthand the attention to detail required studying Extension 2 English for the Higher School Certificate and another reminder of how fortunate we are at Molong Central to have experienced and qualified staff in every faculty to ensure students are exposed to appropriate feedback and learning experiences to perform at their best. RURAL CUP 2016 On Thursday Molong Central Secondary students travelled to Oberon to take on Oberon High School in the first round of the Rural Cup. Having experienced the Rural Cup last year I was again impressed with the students’ attitude and sportsmanship. It is important to see students in different situations and many qualities can be demonstrated on the sporting field. Although Oberon won the overall points on the day our students competed with passion and pride and I look forward to meeting Canowindra next term to finalise this unique competition. Staff who organised and accompanied students also highlighted to me the willingness to support students both on the field and off. TELL THEM FROM ME – STUDENT SURVEYS On Friday as part of the anti-bullying day a session has been allocated to students completing the Tell Them From Me surveys. This survey will provide valuable feedback to guide the school in future directions including wellbeing and curriculum. I look forward to sharing the results with the parent and teaching body. Teachers and parents will have an opportunity to complete the surveys next term. WESTERN REGION REPRESENTATIVES Heidi Townsend has been successful at gaining a place in the Western Region Girls Hockey Team who will compete in Wollongong in May. Congratulations Heidi we look forward to hearing the results from the Combined High Schools State Championship. Good luck also to Aaliyah Wright, Ben Kirk, Toby Parry & Sarah Valantine who will represent Western Region at the Combined High Schools State Swimming Championships in April.

HSC TEXTILES & DESIGN CLASS – SYDNEY VISIT
On Thursday, 4th March our Year 11 Textiles and Design class of Jessica Burgess, Andee Sheedy, Tieke Thomas and Calliope Treacy travelled by train to Sydney to view the 2015 HSC major works. On Friday we walked from our hotel to Rosehill Racecourse for the Stitches and Craft show. Our students were inspired by the selected Band 6 works which were categorised into the five focus areas of apparel, non- apparel, furnishings, costume and textile arts. The works which total 25% of the student’s HSC mark were amazing and the folio work which accompanies each work was thorough and exemplary. The Fair included a Stitches and Craft element of workshops, shop exhibits, a quilt display and most importantly, a HSC seminar. The seminar showcased the application necessary to achieve an impeccable folio, which yields another 25% of their HSC mark. These four students must be commended on their courteous disposition and willingness to learn. These students were a true credit to their family and to our school. Mrs Corinth, Teacher RURAL CUP - OBERON VISIT
150 Molong Central School students travelled to Oberon last Thursday to compete in the first leg of Rural Cup. Our previous two visits to Oberon saw the temperatures rise to just 3 degrees, so it was a very pleasant change to enjoy some warm, sunny weather to compete in. Oberon went into the 2016 competition as hot favourites and they were hoping to make it 3 wins in a row, something they have never achieved in the 43 years that this competition has been running. Our students were particularly keen to build upon last year’s success against Canowindra and were hoping to knock over the defending champions. M.C.S. battled well in all sports and events throughout the day, competing to the best of their ability at all times. Unfortunately Oberon proved to be too strong once again and ran out comfortable victors on the ‘overall’ scoreboard. Having said this, the vast majority of teams from M.C.S. that were on the losing side of their events, went down by very narrow margins (e.g. Junior Boys Basketball 16-14). Although the overall victory eluded us again this year, the large number of positive comments from Oberon staff about how well-mannered, well-behaved and the positive approach adopted by our students in general (win, draw or loss) reinforce the fact that the student body of M.C.S. is second to none when it comes to behaviour and sportsmanship. This is a trait that we are very proud of and we are intent on upholding these strong values into the future. Congratulations to all students who were involved in the first leg of Rural Cup. Thank you to our dedicated staff who so willingly gave up their time (and sleep) to support our students at this huge event on the M.C.S. calendar. We will need to train hard over the coming weeks in order to topple Canowindra early next term!!! Mr M. Paterson, Sport Coordinator

Clean Up Australia Day
Last Friday Primary students got their hands dirty (not literally as they were wearing gloves) picking
up rubbish around our school and the surrounds. This is a wonderful initiative that has grown tenfold
over the years. Each primary class were designated an area to clean and many of them did it with
gusto.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you to the whole MCS community for once again
making our Book Fair a huge success. It has been wonderful
to see many students visiting with their families during the
week. I am very proud of the manner in which our students
have conducted themselves in the Library particularly with
so many changes to the normal routine. Books will be
available to purchase until 3:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Stationery items will be sold until Lunch on Wednesday.
Ned Harris, Robert & Sophie Heath kindly donated books
to our collection from the Fair.
Winners of the Lucky Door Prize, Colouring in & Guessing
competitions will be announced at a Primary Morning
Assembly later in the week. Some excellent entries have
been received so judging will be a challenge.
Just a reminder that the Library is open for Secondary
students to complete homework, assignments and revision
during 1st Half Lunch. There is a Secondary staff member on
duty to lend a hand and computers are available. Yr 7
students who don’t have Internet access at home may want
to come and complete their ELES Study Skills modules
before their next lesson.
