The OpenCable Platform was developed toenable a national (North America)platform forthe delivery of interactive services,

programming, and advertising

Create a common platform for interactive services,programming, and advertising on retail and cable devices;

Define next-generation interactive digital cable-ready retaildevices (e.g., televisions, set-top boxes, DVRs);

Support home networking for cable content and services



OPEN CABLE - Specification

The OpenCable specifications describe aninteractive digital cable platform comprising:

Baseline core functional requirements for digital cable readyhost devices;

A middleware comprising a set of common applicationprogramming interfaces (APIs);

The hardware interface between the host device and aremovable security module (the CableCARD);

Copy protection and security requirements; and

Optional extensions for host devices, including Home Networking,and DVR.



OPEB CABLE -OCAP

OCAP defines a minimal profile specificationfor the next generation of middlewaresoftware for digital cable television set-top

boxes and other digital devices to be

deployed by cable operators in NorthAmerica.

OCAP 1.0 is an application interface that

includes all required Application ProgramInterfaces (APIs), content and data formats,

and protocols up to the application level.
