Today is the 23 rd Sunday of Ordinary Time. Once again, it is our joy to be called together now to celebrate this Eucharist, the Church’s prayer of thanksgiving, with Christ as our head. We come as hungry pilgrims to be fed at the Table of the Word and the Table of the Lord’s supper. Let us prepare by taking a few moments of silence before Mass begins. Prayer of the Faithful For the Church – that the baptised conscientiously discern what is unjust, speak out against injustices and act to bring about a more loving and equitable world. For world leaders – that they listen to their people, use their power to care for those who are vulnerable, and create safety and autonomy for indigenous communities. For the unity of Christian people – that all who call themselves Christin seek unity, and strive to overcome divisions that have grown up between people of different denominations. For an end to the Covid-19 pandemic – that a vaccine be found and justly distributed, and that people whose mental wellbeing has suffered in this time are supported by family, friends and neighbours. For Aotearoa New Zealand in this election year – that the needs of the poor, including the planet which Pope Francis refers to as among the poorest of the poor, are given priority. For an integral ecology – that each one of us seeks to live our lives out of an awareness, understanding and appreciation of an integral ecology, which Pope Francis is calling us to.
