My Four Homages for saxophone quartet were commissioned by the Asylum Quartet, andpremiered by the group in 2014.

In writing homages to four of my favourite musicians (Arnold Schoenberg, Radiohead, Elliott Smithand Django Reinhardt), I have sought to capture something of their styles and characters, or at leastmy views of their characters. So, in the case of Elliott Smith it is the wistful and melancholy feelingthat obtains, while my view of Schoenberg is summed up by the completely tonal music of hisHomage.

My other goal was to write idiomatic and enjoyable music to play, and in this I was greatly helped bythe members of the Asylum Quartet: Joseph Abad, Tony Speranza, Max Schwimmer and AndrewBarnhart, to whom the piece is dedicated.

The score is transposed, with the normal octave transpositions of the different saxophones.
