MARCH 2018 HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE As we look toward our resurrection celebration on Easter, please consider taking advantage of the special worship opportunities we have scheduled during Holy Week! Maundy Thursday Communion | March 29 | 7 p.m. As we prepare for our celebration of Easter, we will hold a Maundy Thursday worship service in the Sanctuary. Join the ministers and choir in this service as we remember our Lord’s Last Supper with his disciples. Rev. Phil Hargrove will preach. Good Friday | March 30 Prayers around the Cross | 6 a.m.2 p.m. The Sanctuary will be open and available for your personal and small group devotions on Good Friday. This can be a very meaningful time of meditation as you consider what Christ did for us on the cross. It can also be an opportunity to lay aside your burdens at the foot of the cross, and prepare your heart for a joyful Easter celebration. Good Friday Service | 7 p.m. Join us in Steffen Hall for a Good Friday service of Scripture and music designed to help us all reflect upon Christ’s humility, suffering, and death on the cross. Easter Services, April 1 6:30 a.m. Sunrise Service in the Old Stone Church 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Traditional Services in the Sanctuary, led by Choir and Brass, and ending with the Hallelujah Chorus 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Contemporary Services in Steffen Hall, led by the Praise Team and Band Childcare for kindergartener and younger is available during the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. CHURCH PLANTING MINISTRY AT BONHOMME I don’t know about you, but I personally had been waiting eagerly for a Senior Pastor to come to Bonhomme (ever since my second month on the job!). After putting the churchplanting initiative in slow gear for 18 months, I am so grateful to be working with Phil to plant our first church. Now that he is in place, and is getting oriented to the church and to his ministry priorities, we can move forward in a high gear to plant a church. Already, we’ve taken some important steps toward creating an organizational structure at Bonhomme. 1. We’ve named our planting initiative the Antioch Initiative, after the Antioch Church in Acts 13 modeled what it means to send out church planters Paul and Barnabas, and more importantly, 2. Session approved the creation of an Oversight Commission that will oversee all things involved in the Antioch Initiative at Bonhomme. Building on these foundations, we’ve set some other priorities for the spring. (Continued on Page 3)

BONHOMME CHURCH PLANTING

CHURCH PLANTING MINISTRY (cont'd)

Planting a church from a traditional church like Bonhomme is a beautiful yet opaque endeavor because we’ve never done it before. Priorities play a vital role in doing something this big, and I would like to share a few of our highest priorities that will kick off in April after Lent:

♦ Build Awareness: Communicate with the Bonhomme family. The sermon series, video presentations, town–hall–type gatherings, and print publications will shower all of us with information about the mission, vision, and strategy of planting.

♦ Gather People: All of us will be asked to consider how we can best support the Antioch Initiative. You will be invited to consider whether you will go with the Plant as a part of the launch team, whether you will offer some of your expertise to simply getting it started, or whether you will offer support from Bonhomme through prayer. All of these opportunities for support will be communicated clearly beginning in April.

Two Opportunities to Come and See:Sunday, March 11, and Sunday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m., the Planting Community gathering at The Pointe at Ballwin Commons. On the second Sunday of each month, we gather as a whole community to worship, pray, and strategize toward planting a church. You are welcome to come and see!

Prayers to Offer:Welcome the Holy Spirit to guide you in praying:

♦ That all Covenant Partners at Bonhomme will be blessed in participating in the Lenten small group studies. ♦ That God encourages the hearts of those who are leading the studies and equips them with compassion, discernment, and open-mindedness as they lead.

♦ That we as a Planting Community will be led to share our own stories of striving to lead a spiritual life. ♦ That we will pray for each other during these coming weeks, looking forward to our growth as an extended family. ♦ That we will patiently remember that through our study, God is continuing to prepare us to do his work.

If you would like to connect with the Planting Community, email me so that I can add you to one of our email lists: ♦ Planting Newsletter: events, lessons, articles, and prayer prompts ♦ Weekly Prayer Prompts

EXCITING NEW BOOKS FOR CHILDREN IN THE CHURCH LIBRARY

In her 2017 Christian book award winner for ages three through eight, bestselling author Dandi Daley Mackall crafts a fresh presentation of the story of Jonah and the fish in a creative two-sided flip book, "Jonah and the Fish". Designed to tell the same story twice from two different biblical points of view, the book allows children to enjoy the story of Jonah and then literally flip the book to read the story from the perspective of the fish. Utilizing humor, adorable illustrations, and an innovative format, these books provide young readers with the added bonus of two books in one.

Your children will also enjoy these other new two–sided flip books, "The Lost Lamb and the Good Shepherd" and "Zacchaeus and Jesus."

You can check out all our new books on our online catalog,bonhommep.mysurpass.net.

VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED FOR LANDSCAPING

In the past have you enjoyed the island in front of the Commons entrance? Or have you or your children enjoyed the raised bed in the children’s playground?

We had dedicated volunteers taking care of each of these two areas. However, each has moved to be closer to family members leaving us with two new, huge holes in our Volunteer Landscape Program. Spring is around the corner and our most pressing current need is for volunteers to keep these particular areas tidy (weed–free). Please consider helping Bonhomme in one of these spaces or even in one of our smaller available sections. For more information call Joan Kilby, 314-469-3164, or John Green, 314-808-5101.

CONTACTING THE CARE LINEIf you are wondering what our current prayer concerns are on any given day, you can always call the Church Office anytime to find out! Every weekday, Irma Holycross updates this list with a Scripture for the day, the current status of Covenant Partners who are hospitalized or released, as well as births and deaths. To reach the Care Line, simply call the Church Office, 636-532-3487, and press “3” on your phone’s keypad, and this will take you directly to the Care Line.

PRAYERS FOR GOD’S PEOPLEIrma Holycross also publishes Prayers for God’s People each Friday. This information includes all information from the Care Line, as well as ongoing prayer concerns, names of our homebound Covenant Partners, and those residing in local retirement communities. There is a stack of these sheets on the ledge of Irma’s desk, nearest to the whiteboard, and also on the table in the corner of the Narthex.

CONFESSIONS IN TRADITIONAL WORSHIPMost Sundays in Traditional Worship, we confess our sin as a part of the worship of our Lord. Beginning on Easter Sunday, and continuing through the season of Eastertide (April 1–May 13), it is our custom to set aside confessing our sin and confess our faith instead. We do this because Eastertide is a season during which we celebrate our faith in Jesus and his resurrection. Beginning on the Sunday of Pentecost (May 20) we will resume confessing our sin most Sundays until next Easter.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME–SPRING FORWARDDaylight Saving Time will begin on March 11 this year, so be sure to set your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday, March 10.
