Everyone gets the same amount every day. We cannot add to it, or slow it down. But, we can choose how we use it. Time comes in two varieties: Clock time, measured by watches and calendars; and God’s time measured by the good we do with it. We choose God’s time when we devote ourselves to prayer: community prayer in the Holy Eucharist and other devotions, private prayer, and spiritual reading. We choose God’s time when, out of our love for God, we give ourselves to those who count on us and need our love – spouse, chil- dren, parents and others who are close to us. God has entrusted time to us to return in worship, prayer and service to the Lord and to one another. No matter how long or short we live, in the light of eternity our days on earth are very brief. Stewardship of talent. Most of us do not have the visible gifts that lead to fame and fortune. But every- one has one or more talents – special gifts from God. Every talent is valuable in carrying out God’s plan. The list of talents is endless, and so is their use in the service of God. Stewardship calls us to identify our special gifts, accept them gratefully, without pride or false humility, and use them well, as God prompts us. A good steward also looks for talents in others and encourages them to put these gifts to work. Stewardship of treasure. Christian stewardship begins with Christ’s message of love. It is our willing- ness to combine our efforts and to share generously our material gifts to help our parish fulfill its mis- sion which is Christ’s mission - to teach, to draw us all into a community of faith-filled people, to serve one another, and to celebrate our faith. We cannot do everything or help everyone, but through financial stewardship we can participate and make things happen. Through financial support to the parish we all visit the sick; we all are involved in religious education; we all counsel the bereaved; we all make the sacraments possible; we all send the parish bulletins; we all help outreach projects; and the list goes on. We ask you to reflect on all the gifts God has bestowed upon you, and in gratitude return some of your financial treasure to the Church. Consider the suggested tithe of 5% or, if that is not possible, work up to it by beginning to give back the first hour of your workweek wage. There are a good number of people in our parish who share their time, talent, and treasure very gener- ously, and thereby become an instrument of transformation. I want to thank them, and want them to know that your parish family is really and truly blessed by your selfless giving. There are others who have not made that commitment to the parish family, and I am challenging them today to have a sense of ownership - it is my parish family - it is your parish family - it is our parish family, and let us make our parish family better by sharing a little more of our time, talent and treasure. Witness of Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure

Stewardship is the careful and responsible management of one’s time, talent, and treas-

ure. Having been called, Jesus gives us a unique role in carrying out his mission. The

challenge is to understand our role, and to respond generously to that call. It involves

making time for personal prayer. It means choosing to serve in parish ministries. It

means planning a generous, consistent gift to the weekly offertory. Over time, as each

person embraces his or her personal commitment, our parish can become a powerful

witness to the abundant life that Jesus has promised. And today we have someone who

lives out his/her call to stewardship inspiring us to reflect and answer that call.

Stewardship of time. Time is a precious commodity. Time is the universal gift. Everyone gets the same

amount every day. We cannot add to it, or slow it down. But, we can choose how we use it. Time comes

in two varieties: Clock time, measured by watches and calendars; and God’s time measured by the

good we do with it. We choose God’s time when we devote ourselves to prayer: community prayer in the

Holy Eucharist and other devotions, private prayer, and spiritual reading. We choose God’s time when,

out of our love for God, we give ourselves to those who count on us and need our love – spouse, chil-

dren, parents and others who are close to us. God has entrusted time to us to return in worship, prayer

and service to the Lord and to one another. We are called to spend time with God at the Holy Eucharist

as a faith-filled community of believers, and in service to meet the needs of others and for our Church.

We are called to spend time with God in our personal lives through private reading of the Scriptures,

meditating on God’s holy word. Our future in eternity depends very largely upon how we spend our time

here on earth. Some people have a very short life, and others are blessed with a long life. No matter

how long or short we live, in the light of eternity our days on earth are very brief.

Stewardship of talent. Most of us do not have the visible gifts that lead to fame and fortune. But every-

one has one or more talents – special gifts from God. Every talent is valuable in carrying out God’s plan.

The list of talents is endless, and so is their use in the service of God. Stewardship calls us to identify

our special gifts, accept them gratefully, without pride or false humility, and use them well, as God

prompts us. A good steward also looks for talents in others and encourages them to put these gifts to

work.

Stewardship of treasure. Christian stewardship begins with Christ’s message of love. It is our willing-

ness to combine our efforts and to share generously our material gifts to help our parish fulfill its mis-

sion which is Christ’s mission - to teach, to draw us all into a community of faith-filled people, to serve

one another, and to celebrate our faith. We cannot do everything or help everyone, but through financial

stewardship we can participate and make things happen. Through financial support to the parish we all

visit the sick; we all are involved in religious education; we all counsel the bereaved; we all make the

sacraments possible; we all send the parish bulletins; we all help outreach projects; and the list goes

on. We ask you to reflect on all the gifts God has bestowed upon you, and in gratitude return some of

your financial treasure to the Church. Consider the suggested tithe of 5% or, if that is not possible, work

up to it by beginning to give back the first hour of your workweek wage.

There are a good number of people in our parish who share their time, talent, and treasure very gener-

ously, and thereby become an instrument of transformation. I want to thank them, and want them to

know that your parish family is really and truly blessed by your selfless giving. There are others who

have not made that commitment to the parish family, and I am challenging them today to have a sense

of ownership - it is my parish family - it is your parish family - it is our parish family, and let us make our

parish family better by sharing a little more of our time, talent and treasure.

ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL

Earlier this month, the Diocese of Des Moines released the new parish goals for

the 2016-2017 Annual Diocesan Appeal campaign. Our goals: Holy Trinity

$7,196.00 St. Patrick $27,045.00 (SP received to date = $9,220.00)

We are asked to participate in making a gift to support the work and ministry of

Bishop Pates through the Annual Diocesan Appeal. Just as we support our parish

through annual tithing, our parish supports the larger Church through an annual

gift to the Diocese. We, as parishioners, are asked to help our parish by making a

gift toward this cause. With your help, we can reach our goal. The benefit to our

parish is significant, in that for every dollar raised over our goal, 100 percent will

be utilized here in the parish for our own ministry needs. Please prayerfully consid-

er a generous gift to the ADA. Thank you to those who have submitted your pledge

cards!

BECOMING THE BEST DISCIPLE: The quote for this week that also appears on the whiteboard in the

entry of the church is:

“The key to heaven was hung on a nail.” Take time this week to sit quietly, or perhaps as you drive to your des-

tination, to reflect on that question.

REMEMBER TO LISTEN FOR GOD’S RESPONSE.

THE HOLY EUCHARIST: The Holy Eucharist is the heart and summit of the

Church’s life...for by this sacrifice he pours out

the graces of salvation on his Body which is the

Church. Let us therefore make use of the God-

given opportunity to participate in the Holy Eucharist, and

receive Holy Communion as often as we can.

SPONSOR EASTER FLOWERS

Easter is also called Pascha or Resurrection

Sunday. It is a festival celebrating the resurrec-

tion of Jesus from the dead, described in the

New Testament as having occurred on the third

day of his burial after his crucifixion by Romans

at Calvary around 30 AD. On Easter Sunday, the

Church is beautifully decorated with flowers, and

if you wish to sponsor the Easter flowers in

memory of a loved one, in honor of your family,

in honor of a friend, or for any other purpose,

please make your donation to St. Patrick or Holy

Trinity and mark on the memo Easter Flowers.

Dear Fr. Antony & Parishioners,

May Christ’s peace be with you this day! I wish to extend my

“thank you” for your invitation to bring a Vincentian Parish

Mission to your Parishes. It was not only enjoyable for me per-

sonally but I pray that God’s spirit was present for all of us and

may continue to touch and guide your parish family.

It was great to see spiritually filled people in your parishes. I

pray that you may continue to touch their lives with your guid-

HEAVEN CENT SUNDAY: Archbishop Fulton J.

Sheen wrote the following: “There is a world of

difference between a gift and a sacrifice. A sacri-

fice is a gift plus the love and personality of the

giver. A gift comes out of the pocketbook; a sacri-

fice comes from the heart.” Heaven Cent offers us

the opportunity for sacrifice. Heaven Cent Sunday

is April 2nd at St. Pat’s and April 9th at Holy Trinity.
