FR. JIM’S CORNER
Some of you may have heard that I have “birds” at the rectory. I have a large flight cage which currently holds 16 birds. (I think because they fly around so much that it is hard to actu-ally get an accurate count.) They are all various species of finches. Many of them came with me when I returned to the diocese from Michigan in 2011. How I got them here is a story for an-other time. Anyway, I spend a lot of time just sitting in the TV room where they are located. The solace of the birds with the quiet chirping is truly an experience to behold. One morning I went to the room and found two addi-tions to the flock – two black finches who look like twins. And I said to myself, isn’t God great that he cares for even the least of his creatures. Ever watch a pair of mourning doves? They build a nest on your porch or your deck, sit through the cold of winter until they too usually have two offspring. And when you hear them “cooing” in the morning, you thank God for his awesome and mighty creation. As bearers of God’s image we are so much more than just a higher form of animal. God created us to re-flect who He is and what He is about. How special it is to see a couple’s reaction when they announce that they are expecting their first child. Or how many times is the miracle of life visible on occasions such as a baptism. Generally, it is the beaming expression from the parents, godparents and the entire family that says it all. Once again, all recognize that God is the author and creator of all life. As the author and creator of all life, God does not make mistakes. He has a plan for the unplanned, a use for those considered useless, and freedom for the en-slaved. The way we treat one another matters to God. We should thank God for making us in His image and likeness. We need to ask for forgiveness for our sins and for the ways we have been a poor reflection of Him. De-fend the unborn by your prayer as well as those who are persecuted, orphaned, trafficked and abused. Join the fight for the sanctity of all life.
God Bless. Idi sa Bogom Fr. Jim

DO UNTO OTHERS – The servant in today’s Gospel did not treat others as he expected to be treated. While his master was generous and sacrificed what was owed to him by the servant, the servant was greedy and would not sacrifice for his fellow servant. Sacrifice can be difficult for us, but we know that to be generous is to live like Jesus. On Mission for The Church Alive! may require sacrifice from us as our parishes are transformed to best serve the faithful, but it will also provide
new and wonderful ways for us to be generous with our gifts and talents for the good of our sisters and brothers and the Church. When we become nervous about the changes that will occur we cannot forget to trust that God will be generous in bestowing his peace upon us and in strengthening our faith in him. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more about it and to stay informed.
