HOLY SPIRIT PARISH MASSES

Masses have a maximum allowance

of 50 people. The 4 PM, 9 AM, & 11

AM weekend Masses, and the 8 AM

weekday Masses are streamed live on

our website. The 4 PM & 9 AM

Masses are recorded, links to which

are available on the website for fu-

ture viewing. Bishop Deeley does exempt all from the

obligation to attend Mass at this time.

RESERVING SEATS FOR MASSES

Mass reservations are being taken over the phone.

Please call in a reservation by Friday at 12 Noon to

ensure a seat at your chosen Mass. Also, feel free to

come early to any Mass to see if there are available

seats. If so, attendance will be allowed. For those who

have made reservations, please arrive at least five

minutes before Mass begins; otherwise, there is a

possibility that the reservation will be given to some-

one on the “waiting list”.

Social distancing and maskwearing remain in effect.

Call 2076465605 to reserve seats for St. Mary in

Wells (4 PM Sat., 9 &11 AM Sun., & 8 AM on week-

days), and 2079856252 for St. Martha in Kennebunk

(4 PM Sat., 8 &10 AM Sun., & 9 AM on weekdays).

If leaving a message, please indicate the church

and the Mass day/time, as well as your phone number.

You will receive a confirmation return phone call if

your seat has been successfully reserved.

R: There are designated seats due to

distance requirements and sanizaon needs.

The elderly, vulnerable, or those who are not self

ambulatory should probably not attend but, instead,

watch a livestreamed Mass.

All must wear a mask in church and remain at least six

feet from others.

When entering church, please go to a designated seat

with mask on and remain at least six feet from others.

Those living in the same household may sit together.

Communion, in the form of the Host. will be re-

ceived in the hand. Please remain six feet from one an-

other in the Communion line. Move from seat to the

line by way of the back or middle crossover aisle of the

church, maintaining six feet apart and wearing a mask.

There will be one single line down the middle aisle to

receive Communion from the priest only. After receiv-

ing Communion, please do not return to your pew but,

rather, exit the church and return to your vehicle

where you may continue to pray if you desire. Please

take a bulletin as you exit. Thank you!

Reception of the Holy Eucharist

Saint Cyril of Jerusalem,

around the year 400, wrote

on receiving the Eucharist:

"When you approach, do

not extend your hands with

palms upward and fingers apart, but make

your left hand a throne for your right hand,

since the latter is to receive the King."

“For I was hungry, and you gave me food,

I was thirsty and you gave me drink,

a stranger and you welcomed me.”

(Matthew 25:35)

The youth ministries of Holy Spirit and St. Therese

of Liseux Parishes resumed the monthly Matthew

Meals after a fivemonth hiatus due to COVID19.

They had a good turnout for their September meal,

and everything went very well for the first time doing

curbside takeout service for the Sanford community!

Many thanks to St. Mary’s Ecumenical Food Pantry,

Favorite Foods of Somersworth, NH, Congdons

Doughnuts, and the Theriault family for the generous

donations of food, takeout containers, and funds.

The curbside Matthew Meals are held in front of the

St. Ignatius gym at 25 Riverside Avenue in Sanford

every second Tuesday of the month from 5:306:30

PM. The next Matthew 25:35 Meal will take place

on Tuesday, October 13. The takeout alternative

will continue until it is safe to gather inside again.

Over the past couple of years, teens from both parish-

es have served hundreds of meals to those in need.

Our parishioners have been wonderfully generous

with past donations for this monthly meal effort. If

anyone would like to support this community meal

project, gift cards to Hannaford are welcome and will

be used to purchase necessary supplies for this en-

deavor. We are also looking for donations of pre

packaged, individualsized cookies, and fruit cups.

The fruit cups must be “no sugar added.” All dona-

tions should be labeled “Matthew Meal” and dropped

off at either St. Martha or St. Mary Church. Support

in the form of prayers for volunteers and guests are

also be very welcome!

Thank you for your assistance with this community

service project. If you have any questions, please

Christmas Card Cover Contest

The Diocese of Portland is seeking a cover

art design for the 2020 Christmas card.

Any student affiliated with a Catholic

parish or school in the Portland diocese

may enter. Artwork provided by students

will be judged by a committee. Each of

the four winners’ designs will be used on

the cover of the 2020 Christmas card.

One winner will be selected from each of

the following grade groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8,

9-12. The winner’s name will be printed

on the back of the card, and the winners

will receive a special gift blessed by Bish-

op Deeley. Due to COVID restrictions, it

is uncertain whether an in-person cele-

bration with the winners, their families,

and Bishop Deeley will take place; a deci-

sion will be made by December 8 when

the winners will be notified. The cards

will be sent to over 10,000 households in

the diocese. All entries require an official

entry form and must be turned in or

mailed, by Friday, October 16, at 4:30

PM, to: Diocese of Portland

510 Ocean Avenue

Portland, ME 04103

For an entry form, as well as contest

rules and guidelines, please visit the

diocesan website at:
