From The Pastor’s Desk Happy Father’s Day!!!

A bald man and his wife one night decided to go out to dinner and hired a babysitter to take care of their kids. While they were gone, the babysitter got interested in TV and wasn’t watching the kids very carefully. The couple’s little boy got his father’s electric shaver and shaved a big landing strip right down the middle of his head. When Dad got home, he was furious. He said, “Son! I told you never to play with my shaver. Now you are going to get a spanking that you will never forget!” He was just about to give the spanking when the boy looked up at him and said, “Wait until you see sister!” The Mom and Dad were both horrified. They went into the next room and there was their little four-year-old daughter with the hair shaved off of her head. She looked like a skinned rabbit. By this time Dad was furious. He grabbed his son and said, “Now you’re really going to get it.” Just as Dad was about to begin administering discipline, his son looked up at him with tears in his eyes and said, “But Daddy! WE WERE JUST TRYING TO LOOK LIKE YOU!” [Frtonyhomilies]. Children learn through imitation and example, and no one can fault a child who wants to look like his/her Dad. The boy in this story has a few lessons to teach his Dad, and perhaps others. Children imitate their parents and important people in their lives, and they learn fast too. People they see and spend time with every day, make dominant and lasting impressions on their lives; they shape, and influence their lives from the cradle to adulthood, for good or bad. This singular opportunity and privilege belong to fathers as they provide the basic needs of life, nurture, and sow the seed of love in the lives of the young ones especially during the impressionable years of life, and beyond. Fathers play a vital role in the formation of their children’s social and emotional security. The vocation of fatherhood is foundational to the overall wellbeing of society. For decades, our society has continued to experience a steady decline in absentee fathers. Young people have become victims of absentee fathers and as a society, we all bear the consequences. Fathers and father figures must be encouraged and supported to respond to the demands of their vocation. The quality presence and leadership of fathers is perhaps, more than ever, invaluable in the life of families, communities, and world today. It is a challenging but fulfilling lifelong commitment to serve and dedicate oneself to the wellbeing of family and loved ones. Conventional wisdom and research confirm that children who experience the loving presence of a father in their lives are more likely to develop into well-adjusted, prosperous, and healthy adults. A question to examine and reflect upon might be: As a father, what legacy do you want to leave for your child? Father’s Day celebration gives us the opportunity to recognize, appreciate, and thank all fathers and father figures in our lives, for their selfless sacrifices to their families, our church, and communities. As we pray for them, we also remember our fathers who have passed on, whose memories we hold dear, and who still remain part of our lives. We commit them to the paternal care and intercession of St. Joseph of the Holy family, the model of all Christian families. Happy Father’s Day!

Blessings, Fr. Eugene

Flowers for the Lord’s Altar this week were donated in Memory of + Ramon T. Delgado-Murphy by Doreen Delgado.

Altar Flowers & Sanctuary Lamp:

The Sanctuary Lamp will burn this week in Memory of + David Poole by Cynthia Salone-Poole.

Next week, we will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which unites us and Catholics around the world more closely with the Holy Father in two ways: it supports the structures of the Holy See through which the Pope governs the Church as well as his charitable efforts to assist victims of war, oppression, natural disasters, and others most in need. Please be generous. For more information, visit http://www.peterspence.va/en.html.

Especially for Olive Davis, Frances Villarreal and all the victims of the coronavirus. May perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace, and may the angels lead them into heaven. Please pray for the Departed souls of our community. Amen.

On-Line Registration for the 2021-22 Faith Formation year is open and may be done on our website at www.holyspiritcatholic.com!

Click on Ministries, Children’s Faith Formation, where you’ll find links to both the English and Spanish versions of the registration form. We will be offering In-Person classes for PK4 (must be 4; we’ll be check-ing birthdates) up to 12th Grade on an alternating A/B Schedule. The full A/B Schedules with actual class dates are available for review on our Children’s page on the parish website. Sacrament preparation registration (First Communion and Confirmation) is not available on-line but must be done in person and in the office to verify attendance, custodial issues and collect those much needed baptis-mal certificate copies, which you must bring when you register or we will not accept the paperwork. We will also verify attendance from this past year’s CatholicBrain video lessons. Parents, you have been contacted regard-ing incomplete assignments which may affect your child’s sacrament eligibility. Our CatholicBrain subscription will be up in July so don’t delay in viewing those needed video lessons! NOTE: WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING nor DISTRIB-UTING FAITH FORMATION PAPERWORK DURING THE WEEK OF VBS! However, we will be more than happy to help you once our totally bodacious VBS has chilled out on Monday, June 28. Also, since most of the Faith Formation staff will be on vacation during the month of July, you might want to call ahead to be sure someone is in the office to assist you with your registration needs. If you’re looking for something to do this summer, stop by the Community Center and pick up a TAKE OUT CHURCH Box full of fun family activities!

VBS

2021

Both VBS Sessions,

Morning and Evening, are a go!

PARENTS, YOU SHOULD HAVE

RECEIVED AN EMAIL EARLIER THIS PAST WEEK CONTAINING IMPORTANT

INFORMATION REGARDING VBS! If you didn’t, here’s a few highlights: · Check-in begins at 9:15 a.m. (not before due to

Morning Mass) OR 5:30 p.m. on the dining room side of the Community Center. Pick-up will be promptly at 12 noon/8:30 p.m. at the same location. Look for our tent!

· Masks are RECOMMENDED but not required for all participants. We will have our bipolar ionization units going during and for the duration of both VBS sessions.

· Games will be held INDOORS due to the upcoming weather forecast (I don’t need anyone falling out due to heat!), so make sure children dress appro-priately (preferably closed toe shoes). VOLUN-TEERS, this includes you, as well. We’re at church…everyone please remember that.

· Because we have so many children in the AM session and with our limited space, we will be sending them home each day with a healthy lunch. Make sure you have notified us of any food aller-gies or please check their lunches BEFORE you let your children eat them. For our PM session, we invite your children to arrive 30 minutes early for a sack lunch dinner.

Any questions before or during our VBS Event, please contact Deborah! We are looking forward to a totally awesome time! SACRAMENTS AND SUCH: · Questions regarding infant baptism (ages 6 and

under) may be directed to Lisa, ext. 312. · Just an FYI—Baptisms are temporarily on hold until

we are able to resume Masses in the Church. How-ever, if you have an extenuating circumstance, please be sure to make the Office aware of your situation.

family, and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide

us with fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY — JUNE 20

Five Lessons from Saint Joseph As a Catholic men, you have the responsibility to be strong fathers and husbands, leaders in our parishes, good stewards in the community and humble followers of Christ. Let’s look to the inspiring example of Saint Joseph, patron saint of fathers, workers and

the Universal Church for his obedience, humility, selflessness, courage and the love he showed to Mary and Jesus. If you can emulate St. Joseph even a little each day, you will be that much closer to becoming the men you are called to be.

The five lessons are: 1. Saint Joseph was OBEDIENT 2. Saint Joseph was SELFLESS

3. Saint Joseph led by EXAMPLE 4. Saint Joseph was a WORKER 5. Saint Joseph was a LEADER

“Come Follow Me” YES! As Catholics, we respond to our Lord’s “Come Follow Me!” by sharing the Word, the Eucharist, our joys and sorrows with each other. We have gone through a challenging time and had limited opportunities to spend time with each other. We are ready to reunite our community as one under God. To do this, we are launching our “Come Follow Me” campaign to welcome back our fellow parishioners to join in our spiritual and community activities at our parish. As an initial step, we sent out a parish-wide survey on June 17 for you to share your experiences and thoughts with us. Your answers will be kept confidential. We will use your responses to plan activities and gatherings during our “Come Follow Me” campaign. We distributed the survey to Flocknote subscribers and via the U.S. Postal Service to all others. We have paper copies available after all Masses this weekend, take 5 minutes to complete and leave in our Drop Boxes located in the hallways. Printed copies are also available in our parish office. It is critical that your complete the survey and return it to us by June 24, 2021. Thank you in advance for your response.
