Second Sunday of Easter April 8, 2018

Thank You It seems like just yesterday we were receiving the ashes on our foreheads to begin the season of Lent. And now, six weeks later, we begin the Easter season, renewed and refreshed. Liturgical seasons and all the associated activities take lots of thought, planning, and good Christian people who share their God-given gifts and talents with our parish. We sincerely thank all of those people who planned, attended, assisted, or participated in our Lenten season.

EasterFlowerCollection

Thank you very much to all who contributed to our Easter flower collection. We were able to fill our sanctuary with fresh and colorful plants that enhanced our liturgical space.

Parish Lenten Project

We embraced two different locations in need of our help this year. After breaking open our eggs, we bought and donated gifts for the residents of our local Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon and the crisis Pregnancy Center in Elkins. The generosity of our parishioners knows no bounds! Thank you for continuing to help those in need.

Thanks For Helping

The Women's Aid in Crisis Shelter recently sent us a thank you note for the many items donated from our church as part of our Easter project. "Without assistance from individuals and churches within the community," shelter director Leigh Palmer wrote, "we would simply be unable to fulfill our mission of ending violence against women, children and men. Our staff will see that your donation reaches those in need. The donation was truly a blessing." Our church's Christian Concerns Ministry would like to add to that thanks.

Don't Believe It!

Reports that Pope Francis has denied the existence of hell are unfounded. He never said it. The Pope has spoken about the existence of hell on several occasions, including at a prayer vigil in March, 2014 when he warned members of the Italian mafia that unless they changed their behavior they would surely go to hell. The journalist who wrote that Pope Francis denied the existence of hell is an atheist and is frequently critical of the Church. He has often misquoted people he interviewed. Vatican II Just how much do you know about the Second Vatican Council? How much do you know about the Pope who convened it and the Pope who continued it? What difference has the Council made in the life of our Church? To help us better understand the impact of Vatican II, a DVD series will be offered every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Marist Hall from April 16 to May 14. The series will begin with two movies: one on the life of Pope John XXIII who opened the windows of the Church and invited the Spirit to enter, and the other on the life of Pope Paul VI who kept that Spirit alive.
