AAA Word From the Pastor Thank you to those parishioners who are bringing food items for the basket in the vestibule to be distributed to those in need of some assistance. The basket will remain in the vestibule to receive any food items you bring over the next few weeks. We help a few people from the local area and we donate the extra food items to the food pantry in Wyandanch at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish. Many thanks to the parishioners who participated in the Cookie Campaign. The cookies were delivered to Pronto in Brentwood and will be used as dessert for the Thanksgiving food bas-kets. This weekend, the second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Develop-ment. Over 43 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports pro-grams to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their communities. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection<http://www.usccb.org/cchd/collection>. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I take this opportunity to offer the sincere

wishes, greetings and prayers to parishioners from the staff at Holy Name of Jesus. Hopeful-

ly you are able to find many reasons for which you can offer your thanks and praise to God

for the many blessings you have received. As we offer thanks and praise to God, let us re-

member and pray for those who are not as blessed as we are and especially for those who

lack or are denied the blessings we enjoy in our country.

Perhaps this year as we celebrate Thanksgiving and look ahead, we can try to be more mindful of the holidays and the holy days that are coming, like the Feast of Christ the King, the Season of Advent, and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception to mention just a few. Have you tried the informative program FORMED available to all parishioners? Parishioners at more than 100 parishes in the diocese are using this program to experience opportunities for you and/or your children/grandchildren to grow in the faith. There is NO COST to you ex-cept your time. One program that parishioners report to be very good is Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist which explores the truth and beauty of Christ's real Presence in the Eucharist.

FOCUS: For the times we have treated one another

selfishly, we ask God’s pardon. In the first reading, God protects a faithful people. They will rise from the dead and enjoy eternal life. In the second reading, Jesus has offered the perfect sacrifice and now sits at the right hand of the father. In the Gospel, Jesus proclaims the triumphal coming of the Son of Man who is none other

than Jesus himself.

Giving Tree On November 24

th, we will be setting up our Annual Advent Giving Tree in the narthex of the church. Your wonderful

generosity in the past has been greatly appreciated. Everyone is invited to participate in this heartwarming Holy Name

of Jesus family Advent project.

Again this year we will be providing gifts to the “INN” of Long Island. This includes over 100 children and adults.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Please no more than three items, each under $25.00 or up to $50.00.

2. Take a name tag from the tree. If children take a tag, please sign for it.

3. Sign the sign-up sheet and supply all necessary information. Please be accurate about this.

IF YOU DO TAKE A TAG FROM THE TREE — PLEASE SIGN IT OUT ON THE PROVIDED SHEETS SO THAT WE HAVE A RECORD TO CHECK.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

4. All gifts must be new.

5. Place the cut top portion of the tag with the name and # taped securely to the gift.

6. All gifts must be returned by DECEMBER 11th. It is very important that we receive them by then. We must sort

and package them for pickup on December 9th.

IF THERE ARE NO TAGS LEFT ON THE TREE AND YOU STILL WISH TO HELP, WE WOULD

APPRECIATE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING GIFTS: Blankets, hats, scarves, gloves and gift cards to Target/Kohl’s.

Place the gift cards in a gift box to ensure safety. You may also return gift cards to the parish office.

Thanks so much—- The Giving Tree Committee
