The Diocesan Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics announced that as a result of the pandemic, the

Diocesan March for Life for this year will be a virtual pilgrimage with local events rather than a bus pilgrim-age to Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 29, 2021. The March for Life began as a nationwide protest of

the 1973 Decision of the Supreme Court legalizing abortion. Over the years, people of good will and all

faiths joined together at the Nations Capital to pray and intercede on behalf of the unborn praying and hop-

ing that their presence and prayers might change the hearts, minds and souls of our legislators and people

who support abortion.

We are invited to take part in the National Prayer Vigil from January 28 through January 29 marking the

48th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision legalizing abortion throughout the land. The Vigil

will be live broadcast at 8: PM EST on Thursday, January 28 from the Basilica and begin with the praying

of the rosary followed by Mass. Bishops from across the country will lead holy hours throughout the night

in the livestreamed Vigil. This Service can be viewed on EWTN, livestreams from the Basilica or from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. For more information about the Diocesan events, please visit the

Diocesan Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics at drvc.org.

All Catholics are invited to join the Nationwide Respect Life Novena of 9 Days for Life. For more information

about signing up, daily intentions or brief reflections, please sign up at 9days for life.com.

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the Annual Anniversary Mass in Memory of Joseph Mario

Reali sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Joseph Mario Reali Council #16261 at Holy Name of Jesus

Church on Saturday, January 30, 2021. The Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 PM followed by the regular 5:15

PM Mass. If necessary, we will utilize seating in the Parish Hall (the lower Church) to practice social dis-

tancing for the safety of all in attendance. Please remember that we follow Diocesan guidelines using alter-nating pews for the safety and health of all. Likewise, please observe the six pews which limit the seating in

those pews to a maximum of 5 people per pew. Ushers will be available to help direct and seat attendees for

the Rosary and the Mass. Please see the insert in the bulletin for additional information about the Mass

and guest homilist for the evening.

As you know, the Church observes a liturgical calendar which begins with the First Sunday of Advent and

ends with the Feast of Christ the King. During each liturgical year, we celebrate the seasons and feasts

such as the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, Easter etc. In addition to these seasons,

the Pope can declare the current year to be a year reflecting on a particular aspect of the Church’s teach-

ings and/or beliefs and practices. Pope Francis has declared this Year as the Year of St. Joseph marking

the 150th Anniversary of the proclamation of St. Joseph as the patron saint of the Universal Church. The pope commented that the experience of the pandemic and the many sacrifices of so many people reflect St.

Joseph’s quiet protection and care for the Virgin Mary and the child Jesus. The Pope went to say that “each

of us can discover in St. Joseph the man who does unnoticed, a daily discreet and hidden presence, an

intercessor, a support and a guide in times of trouble.”

The parish has a limited number of copies of the 2021 missalette with the Sunday readings etc. If you

would like a copy, please see Fr. Bauhoff as you leave Mass this morning. It will be necessary for you to

carry the missalette with you each week. Unfortunately, any missalettes left in the pew must be discarded. An offering of $5 per missalette would be appreciated but is not necessary. .

Sunday January 17, 2021 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time FOCUS: The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time—Loving Father, you call each of us, but sometimes we don’t feel called, or we simply don’t believe it. For this we ask forgiveness. In the first reading, a young man is ready to listen to the Lord whenever the Lord speaks to him. In the second read-ing, Paul speaks of us as members of the Body of Christ and temples of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel, John the Baptist encourages his disciples to follow Jesus the Lamb of God, whom they recognize as the Messiah.

St. Fabian, Pope and Martyr and St. Sebastian, Martyr

St. Fabian was Pope from 236 to 250, succeeding St. Anterus. He sent St. Dionysius and another preachers of the Gospel into Gaul, and condemned Privatus, the originator of a new heresy in Afri-ca. St. Cyprian, who relates this latter fact, calls this Pope an incomparable man. St. Fabian suffered mar-tyrdom in the year 250, in the seventh general persecution under the Emperor Decius. PRAYER: Lord God, You are the glory of priests. Through the prayers of the Martyr St. Fabian may we make progress in Faith and in fitting service. Amen. St. Sebastian, Patron of Athletes and Soldiers, was born at Narbonne in Gaul, educated at Milan, and martyred at Rome about the beginning of the 4th century. PRAYER: Lord, grant us a spirit of strength. Taught by the glorious example of Your Martyr St. Sebastian, may we learn how to obey You rather than men. Amen.

Agnes of Rome Protect the Young

O Little St. Agnes, so young and yet made so strong and wise by the power of God, protect by your prayers

all the young people of every place whose goodness and purity are threatened by the evils and impurities of this world.

Give them strength in temptation and a true repentance when they fail. Help them to find true Christian friends to accompany them in following the Lamb of God and finding safe pastures in His Church and in her holy sacraments.

May you lead us to the wedding banquet of heaven to rejoice with you and all the holy virgin martyrs in Christ who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.
