Bishop Robert Barron’s SEVENDEADLY S INS ,
SEVENL IVELY V IRTUES
Dead l in e fo r Reg i s t ra t i on 2 / 10 / 19
Join us for Bishop Robert Barron’s engaging presentation concerning the seven deadly sins, those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another.
Based on Dante’s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven levels of Dante’s Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice, and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness.
However, Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the “seven lively virtues." The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness.
Lesson Titles Introduction 1. Pride & Humility 2. Envy & Admiration 3. Anger & Forgiveness 4. Sloth & Zeal 5. Avarice & Generosity 6. Gluttony & Asceticism 7. Lust & Chastity
Video presentation of Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Lively Virtues and discussion facilitated by Very Rev. Mark Kelleher

An Opportunity to Memorialize a Loved One
There are 4 portraits remaining that will be hung on the back wall of the church. They are the symbols of the 4 evangelists, St. Matthew (a winged Man), St. Mark (a winged lion), St. Luke (a winged ox), and St. John (a winged eagle) as depicted in the Book of Kells. The Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript Gospel book in Latin, containing the four Gospels of the New Testament. It was created in a Columban monastery in either Britain or Ireland. It is believed to have been created c. 800 AD. The illustrations and ornamentation of the Book of Kells surpass that of other Insular Gospel books in extravagance and complexity. The decoration combines traditional Christian iconography with the ornate swirling motifs typical of Insular art. Figures of humans, animals and mythical beasts, together with Celtic knots and interlacing patterns in vibrant colors, enliven the manuscript's pages. Many of these minor decorative elements are imbued with Christian symbol-ism and so further emphasize the themes of the major illustrations. (From Wikipedia “The Book of Kells”) Any individual, family, or group who would like to donate a portrait in memory of a loved one is most welcome to do so. Between the painting and the framing the cost is $900.00 for a portrait from the Book of Kells.
Also available is the portrait of St. Joan of Arc that is already hanging in the church.
The donation for that portrait is $500.00. Payment can be made in full or in installments by the parish sending a monthly bill. A memorial plaque will be hung in the Gathering Space commemorating your donation. If you are interested please email me ([email protected]) or call the office (302-368-4665) and leave a message.

Catholic Gentlemen to join us. Just because we were born centuries after Jesus walked with the apostles doesn’t mean that we ourselves can’t become modern day apostles. Our commission given to us by Christ is to love God, spread the gospel, and care for our brothers and sisters. Your participation in church does not end when you leave the parking lot. Keep the love of Christ alive throughout the whole week. Join with us as Knights to strengthen the church by keeping true to the assignments given to us by Jesus. All male members of Holy Family Church, age 18 and older, who are in good standing with the Holy See, should become Knights.
To become a Knight, contact Tony Malafronti (302) 530-1016 or Joel Watson (302) 373-6617 or online at: https://www.kofc.org/apps/newjoin/en/registration/index.html You can also use the camera on your smart phone to direct you to the website by focusing it on the square picture in this message.
