Scene 7(Betty speaks to the students directly. Ralph is
conspicuously absent.)
Betty: See, kids, it’s not so bad. Could have been a lot worse.
All: HOW?
Betty: Well, just think. You could be stuck at school alone, without all of your friends to share this experience.
Student 16: Well, I guess if I can’t be at home with my family…
Charlie: Or on a sunny vacation south of the border,…
Mabell: Or at a shopping mall,…
Actor : (dramatically) Or on the stage,…
Student 16: The next best place to be is here with all of my friends.
Student 17: I know that, in the end, Christmas is what you make of it.
Betty: That’s right, kids. Christmas is not really about going on vacation, buying or receiving expensive gifts, or even playing winter games.
Maebell: (looking at cell phone and putting it away) Stupid cell phone.
Student 18: It’s about being with the people you care about.
Student 19: And celebrating love, peace on Earth, and good will toward men.
