THE LAST TIME – HOFSTRA-JAMES MADISON – GAME 4 - September 20, 2003 atJames Madison: D.D. Boxley caught a 32-yardtouchdown pass from Matt LeZotte with 54 seconds leftin regulation as James Madison rallied from a 17-0deficit to capture a 23-20 win over Hofstra inHarrisonburg, Virginia. Hofstra started out the game witha fury, taking a 14-0 lead less than three minutes into thecontest. On the Pride's third play from scrimmage, freshman quarterback Anton Clarkson found juniorreceiver Marques Colston open down the sideline for a65-yard touchdown pass. Pride defensive end StephenBowen then sacked LeZotte, forcing a fumble that wasrecovered by the Hofstra’s other defensive end DanielGaray, allowing Hofstra to take over on the Dukes' 10-yard line. Three plays later, Trevor Dimmie plunged intothe end zone from a yard out to put Hofstra ahead 14-0.The Pride extended its lead to 17-0 when kicker ChrisOnorato connected on the first of two first half fieldgoals. A 4-yard run from James Madison running backMaurice Fenner was sandwiched between Onorato's twokicks as the Pride took a 20-7 lead into the locker roomat halftime. James Madison pulled within 20-14 with 4:23left in the third quarter, as freshman running back AlvinBanks carried the ball in from 6 yards out. Hofstra'sdefense nearly sealed the game midway through thefourth quarter when senior linebacker Renauld Williamssacked LeZotte, forcing a fumble that was recovered bysenior linebacker Tyree Johnson. Johnson brought theball all the way back to the James Madison 12-yard line, but Hofstra was unable to take advantage. Three playsnetted a loss of six yards, and Onorato's 35-yard fieldgoal attempt went inches wide to the right to keep thelead at 20-14 with just over seven minutes to play. ThePride defense appeared to come up with a game-savingdefensive stand when it forced James Madison to turnthe ball over on downs with 2:19 to play. Freshmanlinebacker Gian Villante (team-high 11 tackles) had a

key run stop on third-and-four, and LeZotte's fourthdown pass fell incomplete to give the Pride the ball on itsown 6-yard line. Senior running back Trevor Dimmierushed for 8 yards on first down to set up a second-and-two, but the James Madison defense came up with apair of big tackles for losses to force Hofstra into a fourthdown at its own 8-yard line. The Pride elected to take theintentional safety as punter Niall Duggan ran out of theback of the end zone to cut Hofstra's lead to 20-16 with1:24 to play. While the intentional safety did allow thePride to punt from the 20-yard line instead of from itsown end zone, and eliminated the risk of a block, thePride gave up an ill-timed long return on the free kick asCortez Thompson had a 33-yard return to give JamesMadison the ball on the Pride 37-yard line with 1:18remaining in regulation. The Dukes gained 5 yards on aquick pass, spiked the ball, and then LeZotte foundBoxley in the corner of the end zone to give JamesMadison its first lead of the game at 23-20. Hofstra tookover on its own 27-yard line following the kick off, butwas unable to get a first down as the Dukes defensepreserved the comeback win. Banks finished with 153yards rushing on 28 carries to lead James Madison'soffense. LeZotte finished the day 13 of 23 for 155 yardsand the game-winning touchdown, while Clarkson was11 of 25 passing for 244 yards for the Pride.

HOFSTRA’S LAST GAME –SEPTEMBER 25, 2004 vs. RHODE ISLAND: Hofstraquarterback Bobby Seck completed 30 of 43 passes fora career-high 560 yards and a school-record eighttouchdowns to lead the Pride (2-1, 1-0) to a 62-43Atlantic 10 Conference victory over the Rhode IslandRams (2-1, 0-1) Saturday night at James M. ShuartStadium.

The junior from Westbury, New York broke the previousHofstra record of six held by Rocky Butler, who nowplays in the Canadian Football League, in a contestagainst Albany in 2000. Seck also tied the Atlantic 10Conference mark of eight TD passes set by TomEhrhardt from Rhode Island in a 1985 game againstConnecticut. But his 560 yards, although a career-high,fell just six yards short of the A-10’s single game passingrecord, set by Ehrhardt, and was 25 yards short of tyingthe Hofstra single game passing mark of 585 set by TimLynch in 1991 against Fordham.

It was not a day for defensive coordinators at ShuartStadium as the two teams combined to set a Stadiumrecord for most points by two teams (105) in a singlegame, more than 1,200 yards of offense, and thefireworks started early. Just 49 seconds into the contestURI running back Jerell Jones took an option pitch fromquarterback Jayson Davis after a 15-yard run, and

GAME 3 – SEPTEMBER 25, 2004 vs.RHODE ISLAND: Hofstra quarterback Bobby Seckcompleted 30 of 43 passes for a career-high 560 yardsand a school-record eight touchdowns to lead the Pride(2-1, 1-0) to a 62-43 Atlantic 10 Conference victory overthe Rhode Island Rams (2-1, 0-1) at James M.

Just 49 seconds into the contestURI running back Jerell Jones took an option pitch fromquarterback Jayson Davis after a 15-yard run, andscampered 65-yards down the Pride sidelines for theopening score. But the Pride, behind Seck, scored twiceon TD passes of 40 yards to freshman Charles Sullivan, and 19-yards to junior Devale Ellis in the next threeminutes to take a 14-7 lead. It would be the start of acareer-day for both Sullivan and Ellis as the freshmanwould post 12 catches for 213 yards while Ellis wouldrecord seven catches for 115 yards and threetouchdowns.

But the Rams came right back with Bryan Giannecchinibooting a 38-yard field goal, and Jayson Davis hittingJordan Bowers on a 39-yard scoring pass to take a 17-14 lead with 4:09 to play in the first. Seck thenengineered a nine-play, 69-yard drive for Hofstra and hitsenior Isaac Irby (4-104-2TD) with a 6-yard touchdownpass with one minute to play in the quarter for a 21-17lead. After Davis fumbled on URI’s next possession atthe Ram 29-yardline, Seck hit junior Brian Wolman (5-117-2TD) with a 35-yard scoring pass as time expired inthe quarter for a 28-17 lead.

URI climbed back into the lead in the second on back-to-back scores. Davis directed a 12-play, 90-yard drivecapped by a 5-yard scoring run by Jerell Jones 5:15 intothe second. After the Rams got the ball back following aTerry Crenshaw fumble at the Hofstra 38-yardline, Davisran 10 plays to go the 38 yards with Jones running it infrom three yards out and a 29-28 lead with 5:59 to playin the half.

Hofstra responded with a six-play, 76-yard drive cappedby Seck’s fifth touchdown pass of the game, this time a5-yard pass to Ellis. Hofstra’s two-point conversion failedand the Pride led 34-29. After the Pride stopped URI ondowns at the Hofstra 40-yardline on the next possession,it took Seck just four plays to get to the URI one-yardline. On the first-and-goal play at the one, Hofstrawent on the ground with running back Terry Crenshaw, who fumbled going into the end zone. But Pride senior

center Pat O’Brien fell on the ball for the touchdown anda 41-29 lead with 1:30 to play to close out the first halfscoring. URI had posted 438 yards and had the ball for21 minutes in the half while Hofstra posted 337 yardsand had the ball for almost nine minutes. But the Pridehad a 12-point lead at halftime.

The third quarter was a see-saw scoring battle with thetwo teams exchanging scores. Hofstra boosted its leadto 19 points on the first possession of the second half asSeck hit Brian Wolman for a 18-yard touchdown and therecord-tying sixth scoring pass just 46 seconds in thequarter. URI responded immediately, just 10 secondlater, with Davis hitting Calvin Poole with the first of twosecond-half touchdown passes, the first for 65 yards, toclose the deficit to 48-36. But the Pride opened the gapagain just 1:09 later as Seck hit Ellis for a 55-yardtouchdown pass to break the school mark and a open a55-36 advantage. The Rams would score again on thelongest drive of the game, a 17-play, 72-yard time-killerwith Davis hitting Poole from 8 yards out with 6:11 toplay in the third.

From that point on it was relatively quiet except for therecord watch, and Seck tied the Atlantic 10 mark for TDpasses in a game with his eighth with 6:23 to play in thecontest, passing to Isaac Irby for a 58-yard score. Seckwas shaken up on the play and left the game at thatpoint as the Pride shutdown the Rams the rest of theway for a 62-43 victory.

Hofstra recorded 596 yards on offense including 560passing while having the ball just 22:45 in the contest. The Rams posted 610 yards including 349 on the groundand 261 through the air. URI quarterback Jayson Daviscompleted 15 of 27 passes for 261 yards and threetouchdowns and rushed 19 times for 146 yards to leadthe Rams. Hofstra senior kicker Chris Onorato also tieda school mark with eight PATs in the contest.Defensively, Hofstra sophomore linebacker Gian Villanteposted a career high 17 tackles and had 3.5 tackles forlosses, one sack and forced a fumble. Junior linebackerCole Haley added 14 tackles for the Pride. Sophomoresafety Raquan Pride and senior linebacker TeddyGibbons each posted 10 stops for the URI Rams.
