WAY BACK WHEN: The Statesmen haven’t posted back-to-back shutouts since2000 (Rensselaer 27-0, Bridgewater State 25-0) and haven’t started the seasonwith consecutive shutouts since 1936.

I’LL TAKE THAT: Hobart finished the 2004 season ranked third in the nation inturnover margin. Defensively, the Statesmen are right back at it. Through fivegames, Hobart has 15 takeaways (7 INT, 8 fumbles) and ranks 31st in the nationin turnover margin (+1.2/g). Free safety RYAN SMITH and defensive end JIMDRURY lead the team with three takeaways each.

COFFIN CORNER: Sophomore punter DOM ANCONA tied a Hobart record formost punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line at Dickinson with four. Forthe season, he has dropped eight punts inside the opposition’s 20, had four faircaught, and three more go for touchbacks.

The Saints are averaging370.2 yards of total offense (171.8 run/198.4 pass) and 373.8 yards of total defense(148.6/225.2). Quarterback Tom Anderson (109-64-6, 727 yds, 6 TD) directs theoffense. Mike O’Donnell is his favorite target (22-376, 6 TD). Tom Gipson isexpected to get the start at tailback (3.2 yds/att). Defensively, linebacker JudinPierre Louis is the Saints’ top tackler (13-27-40), but the sophomore isn’t listedon SLU’s two-deep for this week.
