May 2019 Volume 31, Issue 11

I hope everyone had a Happy and blessed Easter! These past three weeks have been very busy for our council. Many thanks to all who helped make our annual Spring Pancake Breakfast such a great success! We served over 90 hungry patrons.

Coupled with the pancake breakfast, our annual Dick Weller Drawing and the Campaign For People With Intellectual Disabilities (formerly called Tootsie Roll Drive) were also held on the same weekend! Congratulations to our winners, Savino (Buddy) Ranallo, Sue Elsen, and Bill Magevas. A special thanks to fellow Knights, Peter Courteau for chairing this year’s drawing and Randy Elsen for again chairing this year’s campaign! We raised over $300 that will be distributed to local companies (Functional Industries in Buffalo, Friendship Ventures in Annandale and Vinland Nat’l Center in Loretto).

Our council is still making a difference in our community. Thanks to all for your support.

In Christ,

Greg Elsen Grand Knight

Fifth Sunday of Easter May 19, 2019

T his is the 5th Sunday in the Easter Season. Our Gospel reading is a short passage from St. John’s Gospel but a powerful one. At the Last Supper after Judas had departed, Jesus tells His apostles that He is giving them a new commandment. They are to “love one another.” Jesus calls us to love each other as He has loved us. Reading the gospels, we can see how Jesus loved all whom he met. Judgment was particularly something that He did not display toward those whom He met, even when they were antagonistic toward Him. It is so easy to judge someone else. We can ind fault over even small things and hold that against them. To love as Jesus did, we need to seek the strength of God in our daily prayer so that we can overcome the negativity that sin engenders within us toward others. Love one another. This is Jesus’ commandment. We may need to correct error or sinful action in another. But we are called to avoid judging them, for only God can know their inner thoughts and previous experiences which have contributed to how they are acting now. Leave judgment to God who alone can know why they are as they are. Love them and set a good example.
